hi all;; my first was back to back and i was induced, so i spent 90% of the labour on my back strapped to various drips.

this time i plan to be as mobile as possible and stay active (i know this one is back to back whereas my first i didnt know) but the consultant has said i will need increased monitoring due to my ending in a c-section first time around.

i just wanted to know whether any back-to-back mum's have had monitors strapped to them for a large part of the labour and still managed to have a successful birth?

My first was BTB and yes I was monitored non-stop from the time I arrived at the hospital because LO was having decelerations. I did get an epi but had it off for the delivery. It was horrible being forced to lie on my back when all I wanted was to move but in the end everything was fine!

I'd refuse. I had amelie back to back and everything was absolutely fine. I was monitored but I felt comfortable laying on my back or side so it didnt matter so much. It was nothing to do with amelies position though, it was because my BP was sky high and I was given labetalol.

My first was also BTB, They said he was when i first got into hospital, but after that nothing was said, and the midwives seemed surprised when he did come out back to back, telling me that not many women can push out a baby that way without an epi. I was active for most of the labour, only the last half an hour i was layin on my back with my legs strapped up as they did an episotomy and had to use the vontouse. I was jus glad it didn't end in a c-section. Gas and Air all the way!! Also had 2 shots of diamorphine, and tried for a water birth but had to be induced :flower:

My little boy was back to back so when they broke www waters they put a clip on his head to monitor heart rate so I could be mobile. I'm only 5ft 2 and a size 6 but pushed out (in 5 minutes only 3 pushes) a 8lb 11.5oz baby so anything is possible, my labour was also completely drug free x

That's gob smacking!! Fair play to you!!

W was back to back but had him with just gas and air, was in the water for a while but couldn't push properly in there, got out onyo bed and out he came!

jake was back to back.
i was monitored all the way through but could've been because i was induced!
i had belly straps on constantly. then i had the epidural stupid thing over my shoulder. things in my hands. a clip on jakes head. :nope:

all in all it was horrible. i hated every second of it. i ended up being rushed to theatre for a c-section but they managed to get him out with forceps instead.

i will NOT be going through the same thing this time. i just won't let it happen. im not gunna lose control either. i completely lost it last time and was on another planet. if this one is back to back i will be dealing with it better and i'm gunna make sure OH can support me with that.

i felt, to be honest, shit about jake's whole entry into the world and it took me ages to get over it. i can't let it happen again :(

sounds like a very similar experience to me - it was horrible and i felt totally invaded afterwards. took me a year to get over it.

i blame the induction for keeping me strapped to the bed because of the monitoring and things just snowballed from there.

i totally plan to stay upright and mobile. my MW said for me to stay out of hospital for as long as possible. going into hospital early increases the risk of intervention apparently. well, i only went in early because they were afraid the cord might come down (lo wasnt engaged) but having gone through that experience once i know i didnt need to be induced at all. if anything all i needed was monitoring but unless it's life threatening nobody is getting me anywhere near the hospital until i can't stand the pain any longer.

fingers crossed you have a better experience second time around :hugs:

Ollie was BTB and I had to be monitored and have a drip and things and only had gas and air and pushed him out in 7mins after 26 long hours.
