I had a midwife appointment today and she said my baby was back to back and that I should lean my belly forward a couple of times a day to encourage him to face the other way. Do you know of any other ways?

I was advised to bounce on my ball and make a figure of 8 with my hips, kneel on an arm chair and put my hands on the floor and walk with one foot on the pavement and one foot off :)

Chiropractic care is one of the best things you can do. If you can specifically find a chiro that is specialized in "Websters Technique" that would be a super bonus.
If you are okay with needles, i would highly recommend acupuncture too.

I would not recommend sitting and bouncing on a ball until you get the baby anterior (baby is currently posterior if back to back). The reason why i say this is because it will help encourage the baby to engage deeper into the pelvis and that isn't something you want if the baby is face up bc it only gets harder to get the baby to turn.
Try to get the baby to turn doing thing like swimming on your belly, hand/knees (the ball is a good choice for that). Laying with your face on the bed and butt up in the air. You can do figure 8s in that position. THEN once you know the baby is anterior, the ball is excellent bc it can encourage the baby to engage in the proper position, that way baby doesn't turn back to back again.

and check this website out:

If you want a birth story on birthing a posterior, let me know. Thats what i had happen with my first. I can link you with it if you decide you want it.

Thanks for all the info :)
What do you mean by the figure 8, what do I do? Hope he does turn as I'm really worried, my mum had my brother back to back, he got stuck and they used the vontouse and forceps but still was stuck, both their heart beats stopped but they managed to save them both

If it helps any, 50% of all labors start out with babys in the posterior position. But only 5% of babies are born face up....i was one of the "lucky" 5%, but if you can manage an unmedicated birth where you can but upright and moving around, that will give you the best chance to have an intervention free birth. It's totally possible. Even though it's scary to think what your mom went through, it doesn't mean you will have the same outcome :hugs:

It's hard to explain figure 8s....you can always youtube it, but it's sort of like when you hoolahoop...kind of...sort of, im not sure how to explain it.

Wow that must have been so scary for your mum! Luckily though situations like that are extremely rare, and it seems unlikely that your brother being back to back would have caused your mums heart to stop, so try not to stress :hugs:.
For figure of 8'ing on the ball, I just sit on it and then "draw" an 8 by rolling my hips- imagine you have a pencil in your vagina and you're using it to draw 8 on a big piece of paper :haha:

My mum had the same experience as yours when she had me!
I then went on to have my first as a back to back labour and delivery! She was so nervous I'd have the same experience as her.

Mine was intense, but fast and unassisted though!

This baby turned back to back just yesterday, so I might be in for another sunny side up delivery! :dohh:

Thanks :) will definitely try the figure 8 thing :) do a lot of babies turn before?

Dan-o hope your little one turns too, it is a bit worrying isn't it, hearing other people's experiences and ESP when it's your mums
