This is my third baby (and honestly, I can't remember if I had this with my last two) but three days out and I am getting awful menstrual cramps now when I breastfeed and also when I am doing nothing. I had some after pains after birth but these feel worse. Anyone else experience this? I noticed the change after my milk came in. Would that have anything to do with it?

After pains tend to get worse after each baby. They're worst when feeding as the action causes the uterus to contract back down; great for getting everything back where it should be, not so great when it feels like you're going through labour again! Hopefully they pass soon for you :hugs:

Is it normal to get them even when I'm not breastfeeding? My anxiety is already acting up and I worry about there being something stuck in my uterus that's trying to come out.Probably bc I spoke with my doctor and he said not to be surprised if I pass a large blood clot

I had this with my last baby.. Who also is our third. I also heard it's worse with each baby. I actually did pass a rather large clot after getting home but still had some cramps. And yes.. Even when I wasn't breastfeeding. I assume it was everything getting back where it should be. Try to relax. If you feel like you need to call your doctor, don't hesitate to. It's what they are there for :) :hugs:

Thank you for your reply. This does help me relax a little. I always get a little anxious dealing with the postpartum stuff! Definitely my least favorite part of the whole process.

Yep sounds like after pains which was always worse for me whilst breastfeeding... I've heard they get more painful with each baby yikes!

hopefully it doesn't last too long! Congratulations :)

I'm glad it puts your mind at ease even a little! I know it worried me too and I did a lot of Googling that I shouldn't have haha

I really hope you feeling better soon. I hated pp stuff too. :hugs:

Yeah it is normal to get them even when not breastfeeding. I was really concerned when I had them with my 1st, I'd somehow managed to not hear about afterpains and I genuinely thought I was hemorrhaging or giving birth to a surprise twin :haha:. With my 3rd they eased off after a week I think so hopefully you're not waiting too long for them to go :hugs:

You ladies are wonderful, thank you! I have been taking Neproxen that seems to keep them at bay for now. I guess they can get worst after each subsequent baby so maybe I shouldn't be surprised?

I had this as well. They weren't too bad with my first but were painful after my second, I felt like I was still having contractions after the birth!
Glad you're managing to keep them at bay and I hope they are gone soon :hugs:

Thank you! They have gotten a lot better and only get some mild cramping after a long nursing session. Hopefully they are on their way out! Definitely far worse after a third child. Thank goodness this is our last :)
