Hi guys!

I posted this in the May IUI thread, but wanted to also post generally --

Our RE told us to BD the night of the IUI, the night after and then every other day for one week after the IUI. This seems a bit excessive to me -- if Ovidrel is 99% likely to make you ovulate approx. 36 hours later, why the BD'ing afterwards? Just asking because it's a bit painful and I'd rather not...

What advice did you get?

TIA!

They recommend that to give you the best possible chance of getting pregnant. Also, if you have more than one follicle, they will not ovulate at the same time. I have seen several stories of women going back for an ultrasound to ensure they ovulated and their follicles were still there. Just because it is not common, doesn't mean you won't be the one this happens to.

I decided to BD everyday after my iui because I didn't feel ovulation. It made me nervous that I didn't feel ovulation since so many people said they felt it with the trigger shot. I felt since I went through so much trouble taking femara, doing a trigger, and getting an iui, it was important for me to give myself the best possible chance of a BFP. I don't want to repeat another month of this.

Will your doctor do 2 iui's back to back? I'm sorry BD causes you pain. Maybe you can ask to come back in to ensure you ovulated so you do not have to BD any more.

Thanks so much, Smalz. You're right about the investment of time and money -- we'll BD every other day (I just can't bring myself to do everyday). I spoke to my RE about b2b IUIs, but he said that they were of marginal use and the office doesn't conduct them (even though I said that even that little margin would be nice!).

I think your idea of asking to do go back for an U/S to confirm ovulation is good and I will ask my RE about that. The thing is, I did feel ovulation cramps after the trigger so I am pretty sure that I ovulated, but it's better to confirm. Thanks so much for the good advice!

My doctor said to me that having sex during that time was just for "fun". I do two IUI's back to back however & the timing is perfect through the IUI so it wasn't needed for insurance. However we do BD so that we can say that it was either IUI or natural - who knows & this way it wasn't all just clinically produced baby...LOL

but yeah why not BD for the extra added 'maybe'.

we do that too!! i told DH that it would be weird to get a BFP but to not have had sex! he thought i was being crazy but i like the thought of well maybe it was us that did it and not IUI

Haha I totally get it. After our 1st IUI I didn't think much of it & my husband is like 'cmon....we have to at least have sex' lol

Good luck w/your IUI! Is this your second round? When do you do your pregnancy test?

So do you have your IUI tomorrow & Friday?
