Is everyone swaddling their baby in their moses basket/crib?
Is there another way for them to safely sleep??

I've never swaddled just used cellular blankets and tucked it under the mattress.

May have a go this time, not sure yet

my son hated to be wraped up so i just used cellular blankets..made sure they where tucked in around him with feet down the bottom of crib.

As long as his feet are at the foot of his cot/crib and sheets are tucked in there is no need to swaddle, some babies love it - mine hated it.

What is a cellular blanket?

You can also put the baby to sleep in a baby sleeping bag/sack. It's different from a swaddler, because they can move their arms and legs. You do have to make sure it's the right size for them (not too large opening at the neck, so that their head can't get below the top of the sleep sack.)

Baby sleep sacks look like this:

Cellular blankets are the ones with the little holes in

I like the look of these, but some people say you can't put newborns in them?

They come in different weights, so for instance ive got two and they're 0-6 months starting at 7 pounds so most babies would be fine in one. (it does have two different poppers so can regulate size) :)

I think you can put newborns in them, but you have to have a really good look at the weights... The majority I have seen that are advertised at 0-6 mths have a starting weight of about 10lbs. I have literally only seen the odd one with a lower weight, so may be worth checking.

Also those that are sleeping bags, what would you do with the extra material at the bottom - do you intend to fold it up underneath them so baba is foot to feet, or will you just lie them in moses basket/crib so that the bottom of the sleeping bag touches the bottom of the basket - to me it looks a bit unsafe just incase they can wriggle down into the sleeping bag?!

I have one of those baby sleeping bag things where they wear it like a suit (like a previous poster showed), but when that is in the wash I will just be putting Harrison with his feet at the bottom of the cot/moses basket and tucking the blanket right underneath the mattress with his arms out so he can't wriggle down... not that he SHOULD wriggle down for a couple of months at least, but my baby cousin used to pull the blanket over him where he coudln't control his gripping when he was tiny. He also held his head up and was trying to roll over from like 2 weeks old which was scary! But that's a different story lol.

For the time being I think I'm swaddling, have a couple of swaddles, but waiting to see that the doctor tells me as well.

It's so confusing, this covering the babies issue, it drives me mad. One article says no blankets, another says no sleeping bags, it's crazy.

Good question, I assumed you don't have to tuck in the extra material at the feet. You do have to be careful they aren't able to wriggle down. However, I think if you get the right size, that is very unlikely. It seems like if you think about it, something could potentially go wrong with every possible sleeping arrangement, so you can only be aware of the risks and do everything you can to minimize them. Even with a swaddler, they could manage to get themselves unswaddled during the night. I have some newborn swaddler's too, but I want to keep both on hand, in case the swaddlers aren't warm enough, or he doesn't like them.

This is one reason I hope to keep the baby's crib right next to my bed, so hopefully I will wake up when he starts moving around.
