My little one is nearly four months and quite big for his age (was about 16lbs a couple of weeks ago). He's been exclusively breastfed but we've just started trying a bedtime bottle (we're experimenting with expressed breast milk and formula - aptamil).
As we're not sure if.we are doing this long term yet I just got a few ready to use cartons, which are 7oz each
last night he wanted more than 7oz though, so he had another 2oz of breast milk. Would it be a problem if he had 9oz of formula? It seems a lot. I don't really know much about formula and worry about over feeding. I also worry about bacteria and things, hence buying the cartons.

A 9oz bedtime bottle at 4 months seems fine to me.

If you are only giving him one bottle a day at the same time every day it should be easy to prepare his milk using formula powder and not need to use expensive cartons.

Just start preparing the feed 45 mins before bedtime.

1. Boil 1ltr of freshly run tap water and leave in the kettle to cool for 30 mins, so water reamins above 70c and hot.
2. Take a sterilised bottle and add correct amount of water (9oz/270ml for a 9oz bottle).
3. Add the correct number of sccops (9 for a 9oz bottle).
4. Shake to mix.
5. Stand in a jug/bowl of cold water for 10 mins as feed will be to hot to offer immeadiatly.
6. Check temp of feed and give immeadiatly.
7. Throw away any left over milk within 2 hours.

This is the safest way to prepare formula powder. By using hot water at 70c+ you are ensuring that any potential bacteria in the formula powder is destroyed. xxx
