For the past couple days my little guy has been wanting to go to sleep at 6:30, I've tried pro longing, but he just gets crabby. He's never been a good sleeper, still isn't. He's up every two hours sometimes more. Everyone keeps telling me its way too early, but if he's tired should I just let him take a nap and then get up, play some and pro long bedtime? FTM MOm here and don't really know about bedtimes and getting him to stay asleep.

How old is he? And what time does he wake up if he goes to sleep at 6:30? Does he nap and if so when and for how long?

My LO has always favored an early bed time . He'd be more settled overnight if he went down early so don't necessarily view it as a bad thing.

Both my kids have been put to bed between 6.30pm and 7pm since eight weeks of age, and still are.

I think the most important thing is to know how much total sleep in 24 hours they are getting, and if that is on track, their bedtime can be whatever works best for you both.

I don't think its to early my ds2 goes between 6/6.30 he wouldn't last any latac

If he's not sleeping well, starting early may help. I always followed Violet's lead with sleep.

Not too early at all. Mine used to… he cycles through bedtimes as he drops naps. When he first dropped from 3-2 naps, he couldn't make it much past 2.5 hours awake time, so 6:30 made sense. Now he can be awake 4 hours or more, with still 2 naps, so bedtime is later, closer to 8:00. Once he drops to 1 nap, bedtime will move up earlier again. It just depends on their age, how much awake time they can tolerate, and as another poster said, their total sleep over 24 hours :p

DD1 had a 6:30 bedtime til she was about 1. Then 7:30 by 18 months and 8 pm at 2 years. I envision it being 8 pm for a long time now.

DD2 is 4 months old and has a 6:30 bedtime.

Both my kids get up around 6 am every morning, which I'm fine with because I have to be up early for work anyway. So no, I don't think 6:30 is too early of a bedtime, unless your baby is waking up for the day at 5 am or earlier.

My two year old goes to bed at 5pm and has done for about a year. Totally followed his lead, he is up for the day around 7am and doesn't nap. I've tried giving him a later bedtime but he just get a overtired and still wakes at the same time meaning he's grumpy all day from lack of sleep.

If its working for you then ignore what other people say, they aren't the ones having to care for your child :)

Mine went to bed at 7pm which is early for her, and got up at 4am!! And hasn't napped since. I'm exhausted!

My 11m old goes to bed anyone btwn 6-630pm. She's done this since I can remember. She has gotten herself into a routine that she wakes up at 4am for a bottle atm which is killing me.

Think she is so used to the bedtime routine now:
Dinner 5pm
Play until 545pm
Bath 545-6pm
Bed at latest 630pm.

She usually wakes at 630am on the dot.

Has two good naps a day between 40m-1hr both am and pm. (She loves her bed like her mummy!!)

Thanks for the responses ladies. He is a terrible napper, he takes a few 25-30 minute naps a day. At night lately he has been up every 1 1/2-2 hours. He has to be rocked and fed to sleep with a lot of shushing. He is up for the day at 6- unless I bring him in bed with me then it's 8:30. I need help!
