Hi ladies,
I have moved in from TTC as have been back to my doctor today and made it 'official' that we are not in the 'normal' one year lucky lot.

GP said she will get me a scan, hubby needs sperm analysis and I need bloods doing 7 days after I eventually ovulate.

Anyone shed some light on what to expect? I am guessing I will get a letter through for my scan? And it will be at the hospital? Is there usually a long wait or is it pretty quick?

Feel so lost :hugs: :nope: xxx

Hi, I lurk between here and TTC as we´re on month 11 (my medical history helped us get seen sooner) and one step ahead of you in our investigations.

I got a letter from my local hospital for the scan appointment and was actually done in a large health centre just down the road from me with the facilities. The letter will tell you how to prepare for the US, they usually give you the option of transabdominal US or internal, they tend to get better view internally. It can be a bit uncomfortable like when you have a smear as they will bump your cervix but then the other option is to have a full bladder whilst they scan you through your tummy which I also imagine can be a bit unpleasant (trying not to wet yourself mainly :haha:).

The wait can be anything from a few days to a few weeks depending how busy your local NHS trust is. You could always phone the hospitals x-ray department and enquire if your referral has come through and sneakily ask if there have been any cancellations. My hospital can phone on a short notice if they know you are willing to come in the same or the following day, it´s worth asking!

Don´t feel lost, at least you´re having all these investigations done and you´ll get your results from your GP who can discuss any problems and options with you. I would recommend you and hubby (if he is willing) will go to get all results together as to be able to ask questions and get referrals done (if needed) there and then. MY DH got his SA results (which were poor) and was sent home to carry on trying! We then booked an appointment with another GP to get to the bottom of it and before I got to my list of questions she told me she´d refer us to FS straight away...

Soooo... now we´re waiting for an appointment with FS. Hope it wont´t be too long.

Keep strong, it´ll be worth it in the end. :hugs:

Sorry about long post, I can´t seem to stop jabbering :winkwink:

hello tonibzac :flower:

i had my 1st appoinment a couple of weeks ago and things are a little different here (i live in sweden) but the fs wanted my scan to be within the 5 days before my ovulation day, i was on cd 10 or something on the day so she did the scan and we got to see the egg ready to be released, she told me how many days aprox till my ovulation which was fun!

im sorry you feel lost, i felt the same towards the end of my 1st year ttc, we are onto cycle 16 now and i actually feel alot better that the ball is rolling :)

the internal scan didnt hurt, definatly nicer than a smear, the camera they use looks massive tho.. but it doesnt feel to bad :hugs:

Hi, I had a wait of 2wks ish between seeing doc and actually having scan.

They send a letter with instructions, but it's quiet straight forward and not painful.

Then it took ten days for docs to call me with results (got them today)

I just had my second round of blood tests and ultrasounds (1st was to diagnose my long cycles, now for infertility) I had both an internal and external ultrasound. You have to drink a bunch of water so you have a full bladder for the external ultrasound. Its not bad, they let you pee as soon as they're done with the external so you don't have to hold it anymore. The internal is not bad at all. You can feel it moving around but there is no pain or anything.

They actually forgot about me in the waiting room for my last one so I had to sit with a full bladder for almost an hour extra and it still wasn't bad. The technician did the scan super fast and then quickly showed me to the bathroom  I bet the images are great since my bladder was super full for them.

Thanks for your replies :hugs: I am not sure if it is an internal or external? I assumed external... but maybe it will be internal.... eek

Hubby has to go do his SA in a cup on Tuesday at 6:30pm.... how long will he have to wait for his results?xx

I think they usually say results come back within 2 weeks.

Hi Tonibzac,

I just wantred to say hi... me & my hubby are at a similar stage. I've started with some blood tests, just to check ovulation, dh has to go soon for his SA... I've been for appointment and on next CD1, I need to phone to go for an hsg.

I'm sorry you're feeling lost. I know the feeling. Keep chatting here, that always helps.

xxx

A scan internal or external will not show endometriosis unless you have large cysts of it. I had both, then a lap and at the lap they found 2 small bits of endo and one of them had caused scarring. I looked normal from the scan. x

Did your gp tell you the purpose of the scan? I had a couple of internal scans (trans vaginal scan) as they wanted to check for pcos. The thought of the scan was really off putting, but in actual fact it was not too bad, a little uncomfortable but ok, not half as bad as i thought it would be.

The scan appointment came through within 2 weeks!

The results were through in a coupleof weeks and my gp referred me to fs straight afterwards!

In fact i had my first scan about this time last year (between xmas and new year)

Hi.

My husband had 2 SAs done and I had my bloods done through the GP surgery. We were also referred to the hospital for scans etc around the same time. We had our appointment with the consultant at the hospital and she wanted bloods and another SA done through the hospital.

I had an internal scan last week (had to be done CD2-5) along with more blood tests. Today I had my HSG (done CD7-10).

The internal scan was fine. It was a little like a smear but personally for me it wasn't as bad as a smear! I was distracted by the doctor showing me what was happening on the screen next to me!
