Hi, has anyone used the directgov benefits estimator and when claiming got a completely different figure?

We are looking into me giving up work, but am worried that we wont get what we have been estimated.. now i no we wont get the exact figure

I find the direct gov benefits calcualtor awful - it always hugely over estimates in my opinion. The HM revenue and customs calculator is better but bare in mind entitlements are all changing in April so no calculators online at the moment give a true reflection of what you may be entitled too. Xx

thank you gingajewel.. i will have a look at the HM calculator and beware all that in mind about april.

thank you for answering :D xx

They should have updated the calculators ages ago cause we had the dwp up ratings for the new amounts of benefits in January.

Just make sure you input all the information correctly and the estimates shouldn't be far off correct

From what I see they always give you a lower figure. Its never right.

thank you everyone.. im not sure what we are going to do, i really want to leave my job but as not got a babysitter in the afternoons anymore, and i think its gonna be a pain as my stepdad is going to have to give me a lift to work in the morning when he picks LO up but theres always the possibilty that he will leave work late which means i get to work late! Leaving work all together is what i really want but if i cant get money to cover some of the wagse i would be losing then its not worth it, plus i havent got the guts to hand in my resignation!! Was only suppose to be in my job for about 6 months-1 year to get me through college and ive been there almost 6 years :(

I find entitledto.com the best benefits calculator. The direct.gov one never give a proper estimate IMO xxx

They havent updated them HN Revenue and customs says

This calculator tells you roughly how much tax credits you could get. It estimates the total amount you could get - in a lump sum - from today's date to the end of this tax year. The calculator uses current rates (it can't calculate tax credits for future years). It will be updated from 6 April 2012. It should take 10-15 minutes to complete

Just dont want anyone to use this calculator and then it be totally wrong come April Xx

Thanks gingajewel for the info.. it doesnt really matter anymore.. I handed my resignation in at work yesterday and we can live off my OH wages.. any benefits we would get would be a bonus and obviously helpful but we arent really bothered xx
