Had to stay in hospital a bit longer that I would have liked, but Benjamin James was born 11th May at 11:06pm weighing 7lb 9oz and 20 inches long!
I'll do a better birth story later and get some pics added, but basically...
Contractions started at about 8pm on the 10th, they felt like strong braxton hicks at the start, and they were coming every 6 mins or so!
By 3am they were every 3-4 mins and getting a bit stronger, so went off to the hospital! Got checked and was only 1cm and my cervix was still 1cm thick, so went back home!
Had my term appointment at 2pm on the 11th, so decided to stay at home and go back then! Contractions got quite strong at home, but had DH rub my lower back and just breathed through them!
Got checked at my appointment at I was 7cm!! Couldnt believe it! Got a room in the midwife led unit at 3pm, but by 6pm I was still 7cm! I was so disappointed and had to have my waters broken!
After that the pain got intense and I hit the gas and air, and had my tens machine on...which served more as a distraction than anything else!
Got into the birthing pool and things really started to heat up!
tried to maintain my cool composure, but oh boy those contractions were bad, and the sensation to push was so overwhelming! Let out a few screams and was convinced my water birth wasn't going to happen and he was never going to come out!
Was such a relief when his head finally came out, and he was born on the next push! My contractions never lasted longer than about 30 seconds during my whole labour which made it hard to get the baby out as he kept going back in!
His heart rate was checked between every contraction when I was in the water and he was perfect the whole time, but I had a few hairy moments with lots of blood loss after the birth, and a bad tear (TMI - I tore up the way and my urethra and clitoris were damaged, as well as grazes in a few other places - getting the stitches was worse than labour itself and I had to have a catheter in for 24 hours).
It's so surreal holding that LO for the first time! So in love!
Will add pics when I get near the computer at some stage!
