I love the name Benji, but hate the name Benjamin. I can't help but think that Benji isn't a mature enough name for adulthood though. Does it sound like this name is just going to be a forever name crush?

For me benji would be a nickname for Benjamin. You could call him Ben on the birth certificate but call him benji?

I like Benvolio (like in Romeo and Juliet) with Ben or Benvi as a nickname but you could use Benji maybe

LOVE THIS!!!
And I absolutely love Benji. Benvolio is a wow name. Like walk into the room and there's "Benvolio". Love, love, love it.

I would say go with Ben officially and then use Benji as a nn as well, but people are still going to assume he's a Benjamin if you're using Benji. Not hard to correct, just depends on how much you really dislike Benjamin and if people assuming that was his name would bother you.

I do think Benji on its own doesn't really suit most adults (I could see it on a hipster with a chill job, but not a CEO or lawyer), but he would always have the option to just go by Ben.

My daughters name is traditionally a nickname, I don't ever worry that it will seem babyish etc. She can change it by deed poll later in life if she feels that way. Benji is a cool name.

I'd go with Ben as well. Wouldn't put Benji on the birth certificate personally, but even if you did, he could still easily go by "Ben" as an adult.

sophie? I think that easily classes as a full name

I know how you feel, I love Ben but not Benjamin but feel it's not complete enough to use as a first name in its own right.

Benji doesn't sound complete to me either

I'm not a big fan of nicknames as full given names... I agree with others that Ben is a better standalone name than Benji, which is very nickname-ish. It really feels like it would be a nickname for Benjamin though... As a nickname for just Ben, where does the J come from?

Most people assume she is Sophia and call her that apon meeting her, so I think Sophie is more likely to be seen as a nickname? I keep being told I should have put Sophia on the birth cert :dohh:. I don't like the name Sophia at all but it does sound more 'grown up' than Sophie.

I disagree! I think Sophie sounds a lot more sophisticated (Sophiesticated? :haha:) than Sophia. Sophia sounds like a frilly little girl to me whereas Sophie sounds more adult and mature.
