Hi there,

I just wonder what are the best bottles/teats for thickened formula.

I have tried nuk, MAM and TT closer to nature.

Are dr browns worth the hype? I want something that she can get a good latch on and are soft. The one she is on in the hospital is perfect but you can't get them anywhere.

X

Hey.

Have you tried the nuk large feed hole teats? They are for thinkened formula and you can get them from the nuk online shop in wide neck silicone, and wide and narrow neck latex versions. Also they always seem to have a good selection of them on ebay aswell. If you are using the nuk lastex teats you can also make the feed holes bigger with a hot needle (using a medium hole teat though as large hole is cross cut "x" on the latex versions). xxx

what formula are you using

we used SMA staydown and it blocked the teats unless made up at hour in advance then it didn't clump and block the teats

I love my Dr.Browns bottles so much.
We use them with the stage 3 nipples and have no problem at all, they also have the "Y" but nipple for thickened milk :)

Hi,

Sorry wasn't clear. Haven't tried any of the teats with the thick milk yet apar from he hospital ones. Hopefully going home tom, so will need to get some bottles that work.

It's more the shape of the nuk teats that she didn't get on with she used to spit milk out everywhere and it was thickened with gaviscon.

She is now on neocate and carobel.

I had the same problem with my son. I ended up keeping the teats from his feeds at the hospital and bringing them home and sterilising them. We tried so many different bottles and teats at the hospital and got no where - I had spent an absolute fortune! In the end, after we had worn out the hospital teats I ended up buying boots own standard neck bottles and bought the medium flow teats, it cost £12 for 6 bottles and the teats (as the bottles come with slow flow). After a couple of weeks I upgraded to the fast flow teats and have some from mothercare and some from boots. They work wonderfully well with the neocate and thickener and they are pretty much the cheapest bottles/teats going! I ended up selling so many unused expensive brands on FB for next to nothing and really wish I had tried the cheaper ones in the first place. I know the mum of the little lady we shared a room with in SCBU also ended up with the boots bottles as well, only she went for the wide neck.

I would honestly recommend trying this cheaper option before spending any more money on the expensive brand. Just so you know, the mothercare teats are much softer than the boots ones but my little one gets on fine with both xx

Thanks for the tip, I've got 6 of the hospital ones to reuse and sterilise. Is it the sterifeed ones you used?

Will try boots ones first and see how I get on. Dont have a mother care, but back in Southampton in 2 weeks so will get some then.

Thank you. Xx

Yeah I think it was I know we didn't really get on with the NUK ones cos of the funny shape!

The bottes are £2.10 for 3 and the teats are £1.99 for 2 so it is a much cheaper option, I really wish I had tried them in the first place. It was the SCBU sister that said to try the cheap ones.

I would try and get a few more from the hospital though, they deteriorate really quickly being sterilised for some reason, both cold water and steam, but with any luck you will be fine with the boots ones like we were :) To be honest the only reason I got the mothercare ones was because they were reduced and 3 for 2, we have ad no problem with the boots ones. I now have 12 bottles and make them up 6 at a time! xx
