Sorry, posting a few questions I've been meaning to ask but only just getting time!

Breastfeeding mums: what do you eat? are there any foods that you eat that benefit bub or help with the BFing fatigue?

My typical day is something like:

Breakfast -
Raisin toast and tea with a powder probiotic for BFing mums mixed in
A pear or some grapes

Lunch -
Leftovers, often brown rice with some sort of meat and vegetables. But if its a tough day then I'll likely have pizza or a frozen bolognese meal :dohh:

Afternoon snack -
Often more raisin toast or regular toast with promite
A few crackers with cheese
A pear or some grapes

Dinner -
Usually brown rice with meat and vegetables or beans. BUT after a rough day I might instead have Mexican or Indian takeaway or on a REALLY bad day McDonalds (only done this twice I swear!)

And I drink endless amounts of water all day. I just don't know if I'm eating foods to benefit bub and also if I'm eating too much? I'm eating way more carbs than I ever normally would but its easy to eat fast when busy with bub.

Share with me what you eat! x

I ate anything and everything I wanted to, and still do. By 10 weeks pp, I was back at my old weight - that's the great thing about breastfeeding.

You don't need to eat a great diet to produce great quality milk. Even women in areas of the world where diet is restricted to only one or two different foods or who are struggling to get food more than once a day can still produce good quality milk (thank you oxytocin - it helps our digestive system work more effectively to extract nutrients).

However a good diet will help you and your body stay healthy while you are nursing. Your diet sounds excellent to me, you are getting regular meals and snacks which is more than I was managing!

If you live in a northern country though, it is recommended that you take vitamin D supplements as babies aren't good at producing this for themselves so get it from your milk. If you don't have enough then neither will LO.

Oh don't worry this is very recent! Previous weeks I never got the chance to eat before 4pm most days, it's hard isn't it! Thank you the vitamin D is a great point, I live in Australia but ironically tend to be deficient so I'll start up taking my supplements again

I was eating Paleo 2012 and nowadays also eat dairy products again since I can tolerate them again (after some gut healing). Other than that I mostly eat meats, eggs, fish, dairy, veggies and fruits. No grain products, rice, potatoe or legumes. Though the last 3 are occasionally eaten, just Gluten I avoid strictly. My diet is high in good fats (lots of grassfed butter) and not ery high in carbs. What helped me most to restore my energy after birth was actually the butter. I started eating it cause I was losing weight and lacking energy and with a few tbsp.'s a day the problem was solved and I felt like the energizer bunny which still describes me to this day .
