I have just come back from seeing my 5th new RE and this is my 3rd time seeing him. But ever since the first time i met with him, he has nothing more to say than lose weight. Every question i ask him his answer is lose weight. Not to mention i am on weight watchers now and losing weight the healthy way but slowly so it's gonna take a while for me to lose the weight i'm aiming for. Currently 290 after losing 7 pounds in 3 weeks on the program. He wants me to be 230 pounds before i even ttc. I want a baby before then (now) and have been trying with my husband for 9 years now and many, many treatments (8 iui's Clomid and injectables and many other things). So you see we want a child now. My RE says he understands and that he will help us now. But first he wants my hormones regulated since i have PCOS. So he put me on birth control to help normalize my hormones. I think that's bull! I think he put me on birth control to stop me from getting pregnant until i lose the weight. I haven't seen any evidence proving that birth control will help me get pregnant. I don't ovulate on my own but i do well with injectables and sometimes Clomid. My FSH is 4.7 my estradiol is 54 and my progesterone is 0.75 all on day 3. I don't know what all of those numbers mean but according to that he thinks birth control will help. Please tell me what you think?:growlmad:

Birth control pills or progesterone pills are supposed to help regulate your period when you have PCOS. But if you're trying to conceive that obviously makes no sense to put you on that! I would think they would put you on Metformin to help normalize your cycles.

If you find yourself doubting this doctor, I would definitely switch gynos and get a second opinion. It's a baby you're after and you need your concerns properly addressed.

I am also on Metformin for the last 2 in a half years. I'm thinking of stopping it.

I agree with ArmyWife. I have heard of women being put on BCP for a few cycles to help regulate their cycles. I have pcos (or so they think right now...the diagnosis of the month...lol) and BCP did regulate my cycle. However, as soon as I got off BCP my cycles stayed pretty regular, but I was back to the bad cramping, the heavy af, etc immediately after getting off of BCP. So, I don't know how being put on it to regulate your cycles is going to help in the long run.

On a side note, good for you for sticking with WW. My sister got on WW when she was WTT. She lost 74 pounds in about a year. She was a little over 200 lbs. when she started. After she lost all of the weight, they started TTC and got their BFP almost immediately. Not that I think her weight was the problem...they never even tried before she lost all the weight. I just wanted to give you an encouraging story about WW and losing weight!

Good luck!

I would definitely go to a different doctor. After 9 years of trying even with IUI's it would probably be best to go to someone who actually seems to want to support your desire to have a baby sooner than later.

Have you guys talked about IVF with the doctor?

I don't understand some docs thinking sometimes... sheesh! I know that BCP can regulate hormones, but I don't think it does it in the way your doc is intending. It will only regulate them as long as your on them. Another thing is that does he not realize more women GAIN weight on BCP? My opinion would be to stick with the metformin, work on your WW and either find another doc or bug the crap out of your current RE.

I have to agree with the other ladies in that going on BCP at this point would seem counterproductive. I also don't like the fact that he doesn't give you answers to the questions you are asking. I haven't been trying nearly as long as you have, but based on my minimal experience, if you don't feel comfortable with your RE, then I would say it's time to look for someone you feel comfortable with. Since I started ttc, I have had 2 different OB's and boy talk about a night and day difference! The first lady was kind of like what you are talking about. Everything was "there is no problem, just lose weight" and when she finally did do something, she didn't do it properly (gave me provera and told me to take it just once). Not only that, but every time I went in there she surprised me with a pap smear.

I finally decided (after the provera thing because it just didn't feel right) to switch OB's. I am SOOO happy that I did! My new OB suggested the possibility of PCOS and sent me to an endocrinologist to help me with losing weight safely and work on my fertility, and ultimately find out conclusively about the pcos. In the last 6 months I've spent more time talking to doctors that actually LISTENED to me and asked cognizant questions based on what I was telling them, then I have in the rest of my life! It's actually pretty amazing to have good doctors for once.
