So it all started on Monday morning when my braxton hicks had turned painful- just to the point of toe curling- enough to know it was actual contractions. I was having 1 contraction in 8-10 mins. I waited until 11am hen they got stronger to ring my hubby to come home from work as they were getting quite a bit stronger. When hubby got home we set up the birth pool as I planned a home water birth and then waited. Contractions became stronger but still 8-10 in 10. At 6:30pm we calle triage to let them know I was in labour but cont still far apart. At 9:15pm there was no change but the mw came and examined me- I was 3-4cm fully effaced. She said she'd go home but to phone soon as I got 2-3 contractions in 10 mins. Me & hubby went for a walk at midnight ish and contractions became 1 in 5 mins. Soon as we got home they went back to 8-10 in 10 I was gutted. I told hubby to go to bed so he had more energy hen I needed him. So he went to bed and I walked round the house, bounced on the birth ball, walked around more etc. By 4am I tried to sleep on the sofa but it was so uncomfortable and I woke up screaming in pain every 10 mins for a contraction. By 6:30am I went upstairs in tears to my hubby that I felt so exhausted and frustrated that labour wasn't progressing, he told me to try get some sleep so I did- waking whey so often screaming in pain. Woke properly at 10am and decided I would get a shower and then try and and relax and not get to stressed about it. I got up to go to the loo and then suddenly got an almighty contraction, I knew this was it. I told hubby to ring triage straight away so he did and told them I was getting regular contractions because they wouldn't come out if he told them I was still getting only 1 in 10. Hubby started to fill the pool and I got on my knee's lying over the birth ball. The next contraction I felt a load of pressure and 3-4 mins after that I began to feel urges to push. Hubby tried ringing triage but they were engaged so he phoned for an ambulance, as he was on the phone I strted to push involuntary and my waters went. Hubby quickly got me in the pool as it was running. Ambulance came about 5 mins and got the has & air to me, 4 mins later I pushed and my baby shot out all in one! The paramedic brought my beautiful baby onto my chest. I asked ny hubby to tell me the sex- a little girl!! We were so shocked as the family is mainly boys and we already had a boy so we were just expecting another boy! she was beautiful! The mw got here about 5 mins after and told me to get out of the pool immediately so she could give me the syntometrin. I told her I wanted a physiological 3rd stage and she tried to argue against it. I soon felt the urge to push as by this point I was already breastfeeding. I pushed and out came the placenta before the mw had chance to inject me! The mw got me out of the pool soon after and did the usual postpartum care. We were so pleased how it all turned out! And pleased the mw didn't get there until after the birth as I could imagine her trying to get me out of the pool! She was oddly anti- normal birth and very pushy! But we got everything we wanted in the end! Our daughter weighed 7lb 7oz and she's the most gorgeous little thing.
