Hello everyone!

Finley Michael was born on 18th July - here is his birth story...

On Sunday I had a bleed - nothing too worrying but it was bright red and 'flowing' and filled 3-4 tissue wipes. I phoned the hospital and they asked me to come in to check it out. They monitored me and had a look but couldn't see where it was coming from and we were assured all was well as the monitoring was perfect. However to be safe they wanted to induce me on the Wednesday (17th) which was my due date anyway.

So... On Wednesday we went in to hospital, very excited and nervous. We got there at 10.30 and after settling in and monitoring me they put the first propess in - the propess looks a bit like a mini tampon and it is slow release over 24 hours. Then we just waited. Nothing happened, in fact I felt I'd gone backwards as I was having a few pains before but nothing after she put it in!
I paced up and down the hospital corridors and around the perimeter of the hospital, bounced on my ball, did more pacing but nothing happened and eventually it was bed time so I tried to get some sleep.
In the morning I felt fine still, no pains or aches. I did more bouncing and walking and then around 10am I had to go for a poo (sorry tmi!) - I couldn't go but I actually pushed the propess out and it fell in the tissue. I told the midwife and she put it back in. When she did this she told me she would be able to break my waters at 12.00 as my cervix was nice and stretchy :)
Anyway, come 12.00 I started having contractions - they started fairly mild but got strong and close very quickly - there was no mistaking that this was it!! I was on the ward huffing and puffing with lots of other people in there and just a curtain around our bed. The pain in my bottom was really intense and there was no way I could sit down so I kept climbing on the bed on my hands and knees. At this point the midwife came in panicking because there were no delivery rooms available so she brought the mobile delivery packs in the cubicle. She had to take my propess out and at this point I was 6 cm. Not too long after they had a delivery room available for me and I was wheeled down. I wanted gas and air but one swig of it made me feel so sick I couldn't bear it so didn't bother. My contractions were coming on top of each other at this point and they wanted to monitor me because of the bleed but I was so tangled up in contractions I didn't really care what they did with me - the only thing I couldn't do was sit down!
The heart rate started to dip after contractions so they made me get on the bed which was horrible but it turned out the machine was just loosing contact as I was standing up and the heart rate was just fine.
Whilst I was on the be they decided to pop my waters - at this point she said I was 7 cm and I thought then I couldn't do anymore. Anyway, as soon as my waters popped, I felt immense pressure in my bottom and started mooing like a cow. The baby was coming! It was unbelievable, my body did everything for me - there was no way of stopping the baby, he was coming so fast. 10 minutes later he came out, it was such a relief! The pains stopped but my VJ was very sore! I looked down and we had a little boy and I just cried with love and relief! They put him straight on to my chest whilst they delivered the placenta. From start to finish it was a very intense 3 hours. I had no pain relief and no stitches :)
Finley is absolutely perfect! We are at home now and loving every minute with our newest little boy.
