Well this is a long overdue story ive just been so busy I havent got around to writing until now but better late than never! I wanted to share my story as induction is a common fear for so many ladies and ive seen a lot of threads about from anxious mummys to be so here goes :)

I was having growth scans every 4 weeks due to a right multicystic kidney and all was going well until 36+6 when my consultant told me that growth had slowed down and scheduled me for another scan 2 weeks later... at 38+6 she haf grown but not as much as they wanted and decided at that point she was better out than in and scheduled me for induction the following morning. Eeek!!! Que me then freaking out about forgetting things and rushing round repacking my hospital bags and mad last minute cleaning of everything even though I had only just top to bottom scrubbed the house down the week before lol!! A very long night went by I could hardly sleep for nerves and excitement.. we got to the hospital at 9am got shown to my bed and chilled out for an hour or so. About 1030am a midwife took me and my partner to labour suite where they monitored evie for 30 minutes then came back and did my first examination to see where we were. She told me my cervix was long and far back and she couldn't break my waters so put the tablet in...quite unpleasant I wont lie but not too bad. Once the tablet was in she left me on the monitor for one more hour then we were sent back to the ward with 6 hours to kill before she would check me again. We had some dinner then went walking round the hospital. We walked fot about 2 hours and went up and down many stairs..I killed the rest of the time reading my book while bouncing on a birth ball. I had no pains or twinges the entire 6 hours..absolutely nothing nada!! I figured nothing was happening and mentally prepared myself to be in hospital a couple of days. Mw came back for us at 4pm and took us back to labour suite. Another 30 minutes on the monitor but evie was so so active her heart rate was much higher than her earlier baseline. I ended up on the ctg 90 minutes before the mw was happy and examined me again. She told me the tablet had made some really good changes to my cervix but she still didnt think she could break my waters...the exam was immensely painful I actually cried but after a couple of minutes that felt like a lifetime she told me she could break them!! She brought me gas and air to use while she did it which was just awful... I felt the pain but I just didnt care..my face went numb amd everything seemed so far away and I couldnt stop laughing! My waters were broke at 6pm and she told me if my contractions didnt start on their own within 2 hours id be put on a drip and off she went. They did start on their own by 7pm I was getting them 5 minutes apart lasting a minute but I could still handle them but they got intense fast and soon I was really needing to breath through them. I was asked about pain relief and I said I wanted an epidural thinking that by the time they came to do it at this rate id be in a lot more pain. I think it took about an hour for the epidural to arrive but the pain and the pressure was so bad I dont know how I held myself together as I had no other pain relief until I got the epi.. once it was in and it started to work I felt amazing..was examined about 1030pm and told 8-9cm not long to go and she would check me again in 2 hours...anyway an hour later I was feeling a faint urge to push so she checked me again and she said no wonder her head is right there!! She went and got her bits and pieces together and we started pushing at 1130pm...the mw and my oh were amazing support I felt plenty of pressure and could feel her being born but no pain it was the strangest most amazing feeling. I had so much epi with my son I didnt feel him coming at all. I pushed for 40 minutes and evie was born at 1211am 16th march weighing 6lb 9oz 47cm long with a full head of dark brown hair. My induction was so smooth and the staff did an amazing job looking after us. Xx
