It's been awhile since I last posted, been a bit busy to say the least and just now starting to feel like my normal self.

We went in on the 17th in the morning to be induced. They started me on Cervidil at noon and things seemed to be progressing but rather slowly at first. It was taken out at midnight and I was told I was softened considerably since it was inserted but still only 3cm dilated, which considering I started off at 2cm was a bit disappointing. I was having regular contractions at this point but nothing really painful. I slept for a few hours and woke up to the most horrible contractions, it was all back labor and just excruciating, but still they said it was only early labor and wouldn't give me anything for the pain taking a warm shower helped a lot but only while actually in the shower, the minute I was done it resumed. So I coped for a few more hours and finally at 6am my waters broke and they examined me, told me I was 5cm and could have an epidural if I so wished. I consented, contractions at this point were 4-5 minutes apart and lasting for a minute steadily. The anestesiologist however didn't get around to me until an hour and a half later, and took another half hour just to set himself up. At this point contractions were pretty much on top of each other for me with no break in between, I could barely hold myself still for the epidural and he finally actually did the epidural but there wasn't enough time for it take, by the time he was done I was 10cm and the baby was coming whether or not I was ready. So I gave birth without the epidural kicking in and absolutely no meds other than the cervidil earlier at 8:31am after a half hour of pushing. Elizabeth Rose was 7lbs 9oz and perfectly healthy, she came out screaming and with all fingers and toes. :D

The real fun came about an hour later however when I stood up and had an excruciating headache. Turns out the epidural was botched and while I didn't get the pain free benefit of the epidural itself I did luck out and get the spinal headache. They gave me a blood patch but it didn't work and I'm finally starting to feel better but only with the help of percocet and caffeine pills. I couldn't even walk on my own my head hurt so badly and could barely sit up for the first few days. I could only breastfeed lying down which was very hard with the issues of inverted nipples on top of it. So I ended up opting for the medication and have resorted to formula feeds for now and am pumping in an effort to keep my supply up and hopefully can resume breastfeeding once I'm off the medication. I'd much rather be able to sit up, hold my baby and enjoy the first days of her life, and I also have my other daughter to consider and I want to be able to be there for her too. I'm a bit disappointed about the BF but can't have it all at the moment. In the future I've come to the decision that I'm not going to bother with epidurals, I'd much rather deal with the temporary pain of delivery than the predicted 2-3 weeks of spinal headache if one gets messed up.

Congratulations Mama! Well done  Beautiful name! Our little boy is going to be called Elliott, which is quite similar, and if we had a girl Elizabeth probably would have been her name, or at least her middle name xx

Congratulations well done! Spinal headache sounds horrendous hope you fully recover soon x

Congratulations, the spinal headache sounds awful though x
