Short version:
25th August: Increased CM, ate pineapple as a joke- actually went into labour an hour later at 11pm! Had clearout.
Irregular contractions through the night. Took paracetamol.
26th August- TENS machine goes on. Tried a bath but it made things worse! Contractions ranging from 2 mins apart to 7 mins apart. Mum freaks out and sends me to L&D. 1cm dialated. CM from day before turned out to be plug! Given codine and morphine- labour slows.
Irregular contractions through night again.
27th August- Really painful but irregular contractions! Finally went mad about middayish lol! Walked in garden, layed in bed doing breathing excersises with Aaron then had a bath. Contractions got worse in bath and closer together so I decided I couldn't cope no more. Went to birthing unit- nearly 6cm!
Got on G+A, went in pool, relaxing music and dimmed lights. Started to enjoy labour lol! Ketones in urine so had to snack a lot as they slow progress.
1st check-7cm
2nd check- little bit more then 7cm. Waters broken- labour speeds!
28th August-
1 and a half hours pushing, back to back delivery in pool, 9lb 1 and NO MAJOR TEARS!!!!
Labour overall 51 hours!
Theo had breathing difficulties
Neonatal come and give him 100% oxygen. Placenta won't come out! More G+A given but midwives and obstetricians attempts too painful. Diagnosed with Placenta Accreta and bought to surgery.
Placenta removed under Spinal. Recovery on post-natal ward takes 6 hours. Shower then visit neonatal to visit Theo.
Theo diagnosed with Aspiration Pneumonia due to breathing in pool water- VERY RARE!!! Incubated with oxygen + heart rate monitors and partially tube fed/partially bottle fed.
29th Aug- DUE DATE! Theo made a full recovery overnight and was released in the afternoon!#
5 day stay due to Theo's Antibiotics. Theo takes to breastfeeding well but is fussy lol! Midwifes advice is amazing!!! Allowed home saturday 1st Sep!!! He is doing brilliantly!!!

LONG VERSION-
It all started on August the 25th- I had been feeling slightly wetter down there then usual but just put it down to pregnancy grossness lol and 2bh thought that it might be the start of thrush so I wasn't too happy. I put a pad on and enjoyed seeing my friend who had just returned from working abroad.
She kept trying to convince me to try some of the old wives tales to get baby out because she wanted him born before she went back to uni lol!
I told her that baby will come when he's ready but later that night when I spoke to her on facebook she kept mentioning pineapple and I got a bit peckish and ate the tinned pineapple in the cupboard. I searched on the internet about using pineapple to bring on later and told my friend that I had just eaten a whole tin of pineapple for nothing because it has to be fresh!![dohh :dohh: :dohh:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/doh.gif)
About an hour or 2 later I went into labour lol!
For a while I convinced myself it wasn't the real thing. They were not on any set pattern at all and were like really bad period pains that I couldn't sit down through. I ended up walking about the whole night and by 3am decided that this was it lol!
I gave labour ward a ring about 5ish to ask about the patterns as sometimes they were as close as 2 minutes but sometimes as far apart as 7. They asked how I was coping and I said I was managing fine so they said not to worry as long as it didn't get unbearable or very regular.
They told me to take a bath but I hated it! Restricted movement made things a lot worse for me!
I put my TENS machine on and found it worked really well for me!
When I changed my pad I noticed some streaks of blood and I quietly celebrated lol.
By the morning things were still the same, my mum freaked out about some of the contractions being so close and kept wanting to ring the labour ward but I convinced her not to. Then I had a few contractions where it felt like my legs were going to give way and she rang them lol
they said to come in.
I was really apologetic when I arrived at the hospital as I knew I was too early. They were really nice about it and said they understood my mums concern. The midwife checked me and said that I was 1cm dialated, very soft and baby was in a good position. Everything was going well but yep I was too early. She said she predicted I'd be back in the next night or the morning of the day after. She gave me some codine and a shot of morphine because she was worried that I hadn't had enough sleep (I didn't sleep the night before either due to itchy skin!)
She told me that the wetness I had experienced the day before had been my plug- some people don't lose it in one lump, they lose it in tiny bits.
I didn't know the morphine would slow my labour down
but I did manage to get some sleep. I slept through some contractions and woke through others but felt drowsy and I was able to lie down through them.
I slept most of the day and started getting more painful contractions when I woke up but they were still timing all over the place! Aaron made me a lovely dinner which I ate then sicked up, and then I sicked up pretty much everything I ate after that lol! I also did a lot of pooping lol! I wasn't one of those people who had massive amounts of diarrhea though- I just went A LOT over the course of many hours.
The contractions I had overnight were a lot more painful but still not regular at all! By the early hours of the morning I was falling asleep between contractions and was thoroughly pissed off about being woken by them lol! I found that slumping over the sofa was the only way to get any relief and by then I was moaning through them.
I was labouring by my bearded dragons tank and he got freaked out by the nights shenanigans and turned himself black lol. Cool huh?
Mum came down in the morning and was being really helpful by getting me drinks and snacks that didn't stay down and sticking my tens back on my back every 5 mins because by then it had lost it's stick
no amount of washing would get them to stick back on.
Contractions didn't regulate at all and I was knackered! Somewhere around middayish I hit the wall
and started crying and saying I couldn't do it anymore. OH came down from upstairs (I'd sent him to bed about 1am ish because I wanted him to have energy incase something happened!) and he told me to try and get off the sofa which I wasn't too happy about lol. He said I should either walk to bring things on, have a bath for pain relief, or come to bed and try and sleep.
We went for a walk in the garden and probably worried the neighbours with my crying and grunting lol! I then went to bed but couldn't sleep. Aaron talked me through my breathing and it helped a lot but I needed some pain relief so I tried to have a bath again.
Once again it just made things a lot worse and I noticed they were getting closer together but I wasn't able to time them because no clock in the bathroom lol! I said I wanted to go in so mum rang the labour ward and they wanted to speak to me. I had a contraction on the phone and she said they were very long but wern't sure if they were close together enough. She said come in but if I wasn't in labour they'd send me home.
I was so scared of being sent home that I cried all the way to the hospital lol. When I arrived the woman who let me in took one look at me and said "Yep, I think you're in labour" lol.
They asked if I wanted the pool and I said yes, got let in to the pool room and OH MY GOD it was massive lol! The room was really nice too! I was very impressed lol!
I had the same midwife as before which was great because she was nice! Got checked and I was nearly 6 cms
They taught me how to use the gas and air, filled the bath up for me, dimmed the lights and put on relaxing music. I felt much better lol! I would definitely recommend the pool! Changed midwife after that because next door needed her for something. This midwife was also great! This part of my labour was actually lovely despite the pain. Lots of special and romantic moments between me and Aaron.
They tested my urine and I had ketones due to not eating so I was really encouraged to snack lol. Apparently the ketones were slowing my labour down so I ate loads and managed to keep some down.
I laboured for hours and hours and hours but was really calm. Got checked after 4 hours and was at 7cm. 4 hours later and I hadn't progressed much so they broke my waters.
It certainly sped things up and I was getting so high on gas and air I kept asking them to put my waters back in lol. Everything is a total blur from here but I remember my midwife going home and I got 2 new ones who were just as nice.
According to Aaron I was having really strong contractions and going crazy on gas and air lol. At one point I got really dizzy and fell and whacked my chin on the side of the pool and the midwife threatened to take the gas and air away unless I calmed down lol. I really don't remember whacking my chin at all but I do remember panicking and holding on to the G+A for dear life lol!
I don't remember mum arriving either but she did and despite me saying beforehand that she wasn't allowed in- I let her stay![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Aaron also says that at one point I told him to kill me but I dont really remember that either lol. I asked for an epidural but changed my mind as soon as I said it lol.
Next thing I remember is the urge to push and the midwifes telling me not to push which was impossible. I can just about remember moving around a lot until they told me it was time to push.
Midwives told me to hold my breath and push but for some reason I couldn't hold my breath for long enough and most of my pushes didn't work. Guess I was just knackered? Memories of this part are so hazy but I remember being really high on gas and air and also remember it being the hardest part and I hated it lol! However Aaron was brilliant and I don't think I could have done it without him! Mum took more of a back seat but only because I told her tp lol! Took forever to get him round the bend but after an hour and a half of pushing Theo came into the world sunny side up!
Now here's the scary part![Sad 1 :sad1: :sad1:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/sad1.gif)
They put him on my chest and it was like looking at a miniture version of Aaron! He was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! I then got a bit worried because he hadn't cried yet, the midwives told me to give him a minute and he will. When he did cry, it sounded sort of like a lamb. I gave him cuddles but it didn't get any better so I asked the midwife to help him.
I handed him over and was helped out of the pool. I was still kind of in a daze so didn't realise they were trying to ressusatate my son.
They gave me the injection to get my placenta out but it didn't work so they gave me another. When that didn't work she started pressing on my belly and I started screaming. I got given gas and air again but couldn't cope with the pain at all. I was making more of a fuss then I did in labour!
Because of all this I didn't realise that neonatal staff had come down and were trying to help Theo. Aaron says he was on 100% oxygen and was purple and choking but I had no idea. They told me they were taking him up to neonatal but I was still pretty unaware of everything which was going on. I got a quick cuddle then he was whisked off with Aaron.
They tried everything to get my placenta out but nothing worked. More people were bought into the room to try but it was thoroughly stuck (Placenta Accreta) and I was struggling to breathe when they did it so I agreed to surgery straight away.
Aaron had just been sent down from neonatal as Theo was being brought to xray, only to be told that I was being whisked off as well! Midwife told him to try and rest and he ended up sleeping on the bed I was on which had a pool of my blood at the end of it![Sick  ](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/sick.gif)
I got taken into theatre and was strangely calm, It didn't feel like i'd just given birth at all. Having a spinal put in was really uncomfortable but not painful. I hated not being able to feel my legs and had a chat with my midwife and the surgery staff to take my mind off it lol. It felt really weird as I could feel everything but at the same time could hardly feel it at all. I was fully aware the woman had her whole arm up me but it didn't hurt - one of the weirdest experiences of my life!
I spent a little while in this room with staff monitering me then I got bought to the post-natal ward. Luckily, regaining the feeling back into my legs wasn't as uncomfortable as I imagined it would be but my time on the ward wasn't nice because I was covered in tubes, Aaron got sent home, and the lady next to me was absolutly distraught because her baby was being transferred to a childrens hospital![Sad :-( :-(](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
I'm very happy to say that the midwives did a great job in keeping me updated on Theo's progress. One of the midwives came to visit me just because she wanted to which was nice
After 6 hours I had a shower then went to neonatal to see Theo. He was in an incubator and didn't look very well but they assured me that he was doing brilliantly. I changed my first baby nappy (Ive changed kids, adults and elderly at work but never a baby!) through the incubator and I gave him a sponge bath through the holes in the box too! Very difficult!
His diagnosis was aspiration pneumonia. Basically he took his first breath underwater- luckily this is VERY rare but for some reason it happened to him. Not sure why!![nope :nope: :nope:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/nope.gif)
Later on we tried breastfeeding but he didn't take to it because he was too tired so I bottle fed him and they topped him up with tube feed. The reason they gave him a tube in the first place was because he was being sick a lot.
The lady who took over Theo's care at night was brilliant. Aaron had met her the day before and she was so informative and really made us feel at ease.
I got my own room on the postnatal ward and whilst I couldn't eat thanks to my chin injury (lol whoops) and I was lonely, the midwives were very friendly and it made it a bit easier.
The next day I got a visit from one of the midwives who delivered Theo and she asked if it was ok if she visited him to which I said yes. She came back 20 mins later letting me know that he did brilliantly overnight and had been moved to nursery and would be allowed to stay in post-natal with me tonight.
When Aaron arrived we went to neonatal nursery and we saw the doctor who explained he'd made a quick recovery and that we could pick him up once she'd finished with the other babies. We had to leave so we grabbed some lunch, came back and picked up Theo!!!!!!!
We tried breastfeeding again and with the help of the midwives he managed fine! We had to stay for 5 days because of Theo's meds but everyone was really helpful and nice. I would have rather have been at home but the advice and help I got from the midwives was amazing! The midwives admitted that he's quite a fussy baby hehe, but they gave me so much help and I think I would have struggled if I had bought him home straight away!
Overall, yes things didn't go to plan; but we are so thankful that Theo is ok now and we really appreciate the help that we got!
He's doing really well now and is still fussy but we love him anyway
lol!
Oh I forgot to mention- NO STITCHES! The midwives thank themselves for that lol! Despite the fact he was back to back and 9lb 1 they say as long as you do exactly what they say (lol) you won't tear. Personally though I think the fact it took me so long to push him out that helped me!
Sorry my birth story was so long! If you read it all then well done!!!
She kept trying to convince me to try some of the old wives tales to get baby out because she wanted him born before she went back to uni lol!
