Hi everyone, just a quick post as I'm confused if it is safe to bleach my hair while pregnant? I've done lots of research but it all contradicts it self? I did dye my hair when I was roughly 2-3 weeks pregnant but I didn't know then! Opps! I'm 10 weeks pregnant and have ash blonde hair, I bleach my roots to lift the colour then normally put a dye on top, my roots are now getting really bad! I just don't want to do anything that will harm my baby! Anyone got any advise please? Thanks

I had an app to get mine done at about 4weeks then thought I better postpone as read to leave off in first tri. So I'm gonna ask the mw when she books me in when I can get it done as its needed!!!

I had my mid wife appointment 2 weeks ago, totally slipped my mind and my scan is still 2 weeks away. Was unsure who to ask as stuck in the middle now lol.

I dyed my hair last week.
I heard that it wasn't advised to do so because of the ammonia, which they don't use in hair dye anymore.
Anyways, I read it's OK, so, I did...

I wish I knew the answer to this. I have naturally brown hair that I bleach blond, and my roots are looking atrocious right now. I've personally asked two doctors about dying my hair and received two different answers, one yes and one no. I'm going to ask my stylist as she's very professional, so I feel she'd know. Either way, I cannot go six more months with these roots!

I am with you! I usually pull my hair up because its been so bad lately. I figure Ill wait until after the first tri to do mine.. I HEAR that it doesn't harm the baby, but with the hormones they can't guarantee what color you'll actually get.

I don't know how much truth there is to that, as it was from hearsay. I'll ask my doc on Tuesday when I go in.

Thanks Nina, im more worried about the bleach. Same here October2013, I can't have roots half way down my head :S I'm even thinking of going back light brown but would prefer to stay blonde :) it would be great if you can let me know what your stylist recommends.

It's ok to have your hair done, I've had mine done did. Lot of research and asked my hairdresser ... Both said the amount of chemical to cause any harm needed is very high and the amount that goes on your hair is very low...

Can you have highlights instead? I had mine done a couple of times when I was pregnant with my son as I was advised it was better than an all over colour.

I have an all over colour now a days and I am waiting until I'm out of first tri then having highlights and lowlights as I'll only worry otherwise.

Xx

That would be great Amsan if u could let me know. Ill be 11 weeks tomorrow so I can put up with this one more week but not much longer! I did hear it is OK to do it in a open space with fresh air, so not breathing in the fumes. But then heard the bleach can be absorbed through my scalp into my bloodstream. Confused.com

I'd actually like to do an all over color on mine. I'm a bit sick of paying $125 every six weeks to be a blond so I'm ready, after 3 years of being a blond, to go back to my natural color. Wish I was just born a blond... :(
Anyways yes I'll call her tomorrow if I can and ask about this. :)

I have an all over colour so would not look right with high lights :( Danielle did you use bleach? As I know this is more stronger than a normal dye

Yeh I had full head of foils(highlights) I think they used 12% peroxide on my hair

highlights and lowlights are fine because they dont go all the way to the root, my friends hairdresser advised her not to do a full head colour

when i was training as a hairdresser the only warning i was taught to give was that pregnant women may be more likely to have an allergic reaction to the hair colour as your immune system and everything else are off balance, however things like that are only skin deep, hair colour isnt absorbed into your blood stream it sits on top of your head. its fine to colour your hair, however your advised to test some on ur skin for allergies but each to tgeir own some prefer not to its up to yourself but hair colour is not absorbed into your system x
