Hi ladies,

Last night I had some bright red bleeding that started to turn rust-colored and then brown. I went into the doctor and the baby looks good, with a good heartbeat, but they couldn't figure out what caused the bleeding. Placenta looked good, in the back of my uterus so it isn't a placenta previa situation.

Anyone else experience something like this? I'm freaked out, everything has been smooth sailing until now but I know bleeding in the second trimester isn't normal.

Dealing with this has made me realize how much I love this baby already. I just really hope everything is okay.

How are you now? Must have been a bit of a shock for you :flower:

I bled a few days after my 12 week scan where all looked perfect. I subsequently got diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma, which is where a vessel surrounding your womb causes bleeding. This often pools and created a clot that's visible on a ultrasound scan. Maybe you have this?

I'd go back to your doctors and see if they can help figure out the cause for you. It might put your mind at ease if they refer you to a specialist of some kind who is more knowledgable about these things. I saw an obstetrician, but I think over in US it's common to see a peri

The reassuring thing is all looked good when you went to your doctors with baby, so you will probably be just fine :hugs:

Prachipie - I hope everything is ok for you too!! I am sure it is. Like Yo-yo said. If they did a scan and the baby looked good it was likely something like an sch or irritation.

I had the same thing. Red spotting (wasn't really heavy enough to call it bleeding) at almost exactly 14 weeks (found it Monday morning when I woke up). I haven't had any spotting this whole pregnancy so it really freaked me out.

I went to the doctor Monday morning. She found the heartbeat on the Doppler immediately. She checked and said my cervix was closed and she could see a bit of dark blood. The spotting stopped the next day (Tuesday). Haven't had anything else since then. She said she didn't know what caused it. Just that I should go back if it got worse. I already had a doctors appointment scheduled for next Friday. She just said keep that appointment and have them check again. I think they are supposed to do an ultrasound that day so then they can look for a sch.

We hadn't had sex and there was nothing that happened that would have irritated anything. So I have no idea what caused the spotting. The fact that she found the heartbeat right away and it was strong (150) was encouraging and made me feel a bit better. Of course it makes me worry. I did have a miscarriage the only other time I have been pregnant. We were ttc for almost 3 years. Had the miscarriage in Oct 2012 and just finally got another bfp in April of this year.

Seeing red blood definitely freaked me out and brought all the worries back that I had finally started to let go of a bit. The worry never stops completely. But I had finally stopped obsessively checking for bleeding every time I went to the bathroom.

I just have to keep reminding myself that there are lots of women that get bleeding at some point and still go on to have a healthy baby.

I had bright red bleeding 3 weeks ago. I went to the hospital and they said some of the cells from inside my cervix have grown out and are sensitive but it's not sinister. I've been told to go back and get checked every time it happens again.

Thanks for the responses guys! Thankfully the bleeding has stopped and I'm feeling normal, so really hoping it was just a random thing. I did some more google searching and it sounds like some women do experience this with no explanation and end up with perfectly healthy pregnancies and babies. Hoping that's true for all of us!

How scary Prachipie! That bleeding I had at 5wks2days was a early miscarriage for me, so I'm back to trying, but in my tww :) I wish you all the best! :)

Oh Khigg...I'm so sorry to hear that. Are you doing okay?

The bleeding today is heavier than its been, but still all brown and goopy. I hope the doctor has some answers tomorrow. This is making me so nervous. I mean I understand that brown is better than red blood, but what on earth caused so much bleeding?

I am doing ok.. We were kind of prepared for it as I had lost all symptoms by 6wks. My family doctor still didn't want to see me until 10wks, and I refused to sit around and wait, hoping that I was still pregnant. So I called around and found a gyno that would see me as soon as possible. They confirmed not pregnant, but were helpful and kind and didn't treat me like I was stupid for wanting an appt. She even order blood work for me to have done on cd22 in any cycle after this one.

I just wanted to find you and update you since we thought we were going to go through this journey together.

I have no clue what's up with your bleeding, but will be praying for you and will check back in for an update. Your doctor will ease your mind tomorrow :)

Hey, well the culture over the weekend came back negative so the simple causes (like a local infection) were ruled out. We had a high resolution ultrasound today to make sure the placenta was fully attached and there was no clot behind it, thankfully everything looked good. Basically they don't think they'll know what caused the bleeding, but it has lightened up a bunch and hopefully it will stop soon.

We did find out the gender! :blue: !!! Had a feeling that was the case...

How are you doing Khigg? Do you know when you can TTC again? I hope you'll be back here soon (like super soon)!

I'm still trying and doctor comfirmed O would occur (based off of a pelvic exam/cm) I was advised no break was necessary :) AF is due the 30th.

It's a boy?!?! Woooohoooooo!! You called that from day one :) so glad everything is looking good.

Thanks Khigg! Yeah we really did call it on the gender (would have been embarrassed to be that wrong about it!). Glad you got the okay to keep TTC, any chance for this cycle? If so, when do you think you'll test?

I had bleeding just like this at 16 +5 and they never did find a reason, had ultrasounds bloodwork, internal exam, everything looked completely normal and I have not had any bleeding since. Doctor is just calling it unexplained bleeding and it means that they will keep a closer eye on me starting at 32 weeks.

Congrats on the boy news :)
Sorry you didn't get answers, but then again it's also positive nothing showed up on your scan :flower:

Did they check your cervix visually at all? I've had odd bits of bleeding down to an ectropion cervix - mainly brown but sometimes red and there often isn't any obvious reason as to what has set it off - can just be hormones.

The doctor felt my cervix to make sure it was closed (it was), but I don't think she could do a visual exam of it. Thankfully I'm on day 3 of no bleeding, so hoping this is all behind us.

Lilmonkey-that is interesting about being on a closer watch after 32 weeks...the doctor didn't mention anything like that but maybe she's still planning to do it.

We dtd on on 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, & 17 with O on 17. So it's possible, but just have to wait it out until Monday morning. If AF is a no show, then I will test. :)

Glad the bleeding has stopped for you! When is your next appt?

This is what I have too. Causes lots of bloody red or brown discharge. Had it last pregnancy and they couldn't find the cause until after delivery. Now for this one we at least know what the cause is. It can be set off by hormones, sex, bowel movement etc. maybe you can ask about it next time! Glad all seems ok!!

Yeah, I thought it was interesting too but Doc said due to second tri bleeding they will do a detailed ultrasound at 32 weeks just to rule out any possibility of a placental abruption. I was also told to take it easy for a couple weeks after the bleeding stopped and no sex until 3 days after all bleeding had stopped, don't lift anything over 10-15 pounds (I have a couple times but try to limit my over exertion :haha:) now DH wont even let me lift a laundry basket lol, he carries it to the laundry room for me. Glad you have stopped bleeding, just take it easy and relax as much as you possibly can.

Hi ladies,

Well the bleeding started again on Friday and it is still going on. Freaked out when I saw it because it was redder, but soon turned to the icky brown stuff. We're just monitoring it for now. Next ultrasound is July 15th.

I really want this to stop so I can start being active again. I finally have my energy back and I'm relegated to the couch!

Khigg, did you test today?!!
