blood clot on lung.... pe

Well I have been in hospital since Christmas day coz, I have / had a clot on my lung, I have been on antibiotics for chest and throat infection and a clot buster infusion.

Also baby has been given steroids just incase.

Anyone been in my,position ?

I had blood clots in both lungs when I was pregnant with my twins earlier this year. I was only 21 weeks, so delivery wasn't an option really and they wouldn't give me steroids.

I couldn't walk anywhere for two days prior to going into hospital without getting severely out of breath and almost passing out/getting really dizzy. I had my 20 week scan the day I was admitted and I couldn't walk from the waiting room to the scan room without stopping a dozen times to catch my breath. I kept telling my husband I was just pregnant with twins and it was bound to make me out of breath and when the midwife insisted I go to the DAU at the bigger hospital I was really annoyed! When I got there my SATS were 85 and I had to go on oxygen and wasn't allowed anywhere without a nurse. Embarrassing!

Anyway, they started me on clexane prior to diagnosis of th PE's and then I carried on the twice daily clexane (heparin) injections twice a day for 6 months from the original diagnosis. (or would have been six weeks post birth if that was longer) I got better pretty quickly after the injections started, less breathless after a few days and not really beathless at all after a couple of weeks.

I am now pregnant again and would have had to be on one clexane injection daily to prevent further PE's but it turns out I have a blood condition so I am also on asprin daily to prevebt miscarriage.

The PE's had no negative affect on the pregnancy.

I'm still in hospital. Thank you for ur time in replying I'm starting the twice daily jabs soon but am on some clot breaking up ones atm and look like I have been beaten up.


I think bubs is staying put for now just keeping v close eye on movement.

I now am only slightly out of breath. Just shattered. I had a chest x ray too n have cloudy )its in right lung. So more antibiotics for me.

Well fed up just want my bed.

I also had a PE when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I had surgery when I was 5 weeks and it was a result from that. I have Protein S defiency so I get PE's all the time. My resolved itself already and I will be on injection for the rest of my life. I was a pill and injeactions before pregnancy. The injections are not bad at all and I rarely bruise at the sight of injection. Good Luck. . .
