I have been diagnosed with a blood clot in my right pelvis.
I have to take a shot injection, lovenox, twice a day for my whole pregnancy and 6 weeks afterwards.

Has anyone gone through this, or are going through this?

I don't have clots during my pregnancy however due to having had DVT in the past I have been put on injections from wk 18 of my pregnancy until 6wks post birth, 2 a day of clexaine which is basically a blood thinner to prevent further any chance of clotting.
The needles are slightly annoying but you do just get used to them after a bit and it becomes just part of the routine each day!

Better then the alternative!!

At 10 weeks I had massive clots on both lungs, I've been on clexane injections ever since and will be for six weeks after birth too. The injections are fine now and the bruising has stopped too! U defo get used to doing them.x

how did you ladies know that you had blood clots?

Hi , i have had two P.E's in the past (one in each lung) i was on Warfarin for life , when i got pregnant i was put on fragmin injections twice daily :-( , its a pain but will be worth it come April , but as a result my cons is going to iinduce me because od risks if i go over has any one else been told that ?

No, they havent said anything about inducing.. but then again I havent asked.
I hope I dont have to get induced or have a c-section.. i want everything to go naturally

I was wondering the same thing as above....how did you know/find out you had a blood clot? Thanks

Apparently, I'd already had the blood clot, but being pregnant exaggerated it and made it worse. I went to the ER after having bad pains, a my leg was swollen, I was dizzy, blurred vision... They did a MRI and found the clot. I was 5-6wks pregnant.

Hi,

I've clotting problems too. I have an autoimmune disorder called antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). It causes miscarriages (I've had 6) and blot clots. I take fraxiparin and asprin to keep the blood flow to the placenta OK.

In the past few weeks I've gone blind briefly 4 times which was probably due to a little blood clot in the retinal artery. Now I'll be on a higher dose of the blood thinners to try and stop any more attacks, or a more serious stroke.

Goosie

Nice to know others going through the same thing i've got a history of recurrant DVT's and was on lifelong warfarin now changed over to 2 x daily Clexane injections.

Oh and when we first started trying to a baby i spoke to haemotology consultant about complications during pregnancy and labour and she said aside from being closely monitored theres no reason why you cant have a completely natural pregancny and birth and they prefer a natural birth to C section coz of the implications of bleeding through surgery!!!

Hope everyone's managing with the injections like other's have said it will deffo be worth it!!!!!

Hi,
I was diagnosed with DVT/PE earlier this year. I've just been given the all clear to ttc :-D although I will be put on heparin early on until some time after giving birth.
I always used to put my shots in my belly - how are you ladies coping? Do you get someone else to do it or where do you put the needle???

For those wondering how I knew something was wrong: I was constantly out of breath, couldn't even get a coffee in the office without having to stop to breathe. Racing heartbeat, every so often episodes of pain while breathing in, leg pain and finally swelling/redness. Most people get the leg symptoms first.

i had a dvt a few years ago was put down to being on the pill, im on clexaine daily injections now as well i do it in my belly in my love handles lol i find if i do it really slowly it doesnt hurt and doesnt bruise im nervous about them now as i get towards the end of the pregnancy though as my consultant said dont take it if u think your going to go into labour how am i meant to know that lol! x

I put mine in my leg.. I can bear to inject in the belly anymore.. my husband used to do them.. he actually enjoyed it made him feel important i guess.. but I can do them as well. Doesnt bother me anymore.

Yes!
I also get out of breath.. it makes me nervous that my heart starts to be beat really fast, and I seriously have to sit down and calm down. I think its nerves as well as a symptom.

Wow theres lots of us having daily injections isnt it amazing tat a lil injection can make us safe and healthy to carry our babies :)

Ive found that the skin on my stomach is nowstarting to get hard and is more painful when i inject so ive moved to doing it in my thighs and it hardly bruises atall there, does sting but is overall less painful. Oh 1 thing i did find out is that i won't be able to have a water birth coz (dont know if it'll be the same 4 u ladies) i have to be put on a drip when in labour to contact my womb to reduce risk of bleeding. Oh and i asked that about the how do you know you're in labour and they just kind of said you'll know lol

It's def interesting to read what different people have been told. I saw the Dr the other day and have learnt that while a waterbirth etc is completely fine for me, if I get to the stage of wanting/needing an epidural and its been less then 24hrs since my last injection then I can't have one. Also if something happens and I need to go for a c-section within 24hrs of last injection then I'll be put completely under for it. So yep, stopping those injections at the first sign of anything I think might be labour!!

I started injecting twice a day into my thighs, after 15wks of this my thighs were pretty much hard from constant injecting and were bruised constantly, they changed my dosage so it was the same amount as the 2needles all in one needle and I've been able to start injecting into tummy love handles,. am finally not bruised and not having any troubles!

Oh dear, it does sound like a chore!
I was a complete and utter needle-phobe until I was diagnosed but then I became a pin-cusion and gave up caring.

I also found that the slower I injected, the less likely there would be stinging after. I am so specific now that I am very reluctant to let anyone else give me the injection (had a nurse once who just jammed the whole thing in in one go - OUCH!). I never thought about using the leg - I'll keep that in mind!!!

Wishing you all the best ladies, that your labour is easy but noticeable, and that you have a wonderful time with your lovely babies!

I've got a history of clotting and 2 years ago when TTC for 2 years with then husband I saw my haematologist. He told me that I'd need heparin injections from 6 weeks until after the birth. He also said that natural or C section is fine and some places prefer C sections because they can manage the heparin easier.
Anyway I'm 6 weeks today and I went to my GP last tuesday to be referred to haematologist as I'm no longer on their lists. I rang the hospital today to say what's happening I should be starting my injections from today and was really po'd to find out that they'd not received a referral from my GP. So I had to ring my GP and get them to fax it over to them.
Why is everything so difficult at the moment.
What have your drs said about flying? A friend of mine who's an anaesetist says that compression socks are advisable too as well as gentle walking (the wii fit is great for this)
Much love my pincushion buddies

Hey. I was on Tinzaparin injections every day during pregnancy, and 6 weeks post partum, when pg with Poppy. It was a right pain but I guess you do whatever helps. I have never had a clot but we have a clotting disorder in the family.
Also I was flying to America for wedding at 18 weeks so I think that is part of the reason I was on them. Had to wear the stockings on the flight and also walk around and drink lots of water.

I had a normal delivery (apart from Poppy being prem) and didn't need a section - just had to wear the support stocking whilst in labour.

Not sure if that helps but that's my experience!
PS Have been put on Clexane for this pg but am hoping they will take me off them as my consultant seemed to think I didn't need them this time round
