Hi Ladies-
Today I went to the doctor to get the excema on my hand checked out. Everything was fine, just needed some more cream, but when they took my blood pressure the nurse said that it was a little high. 140/70. What does this mean? I am 23 years old and been very healthy otherwise and have never had a blood pressure reading over 120/60. So...just wanted to post and see if anyone else has had this and if their doctor seemed alarmed at all. This is not my pregnancy doctor by the way, I went to see my family doctor today.

Hey hon, I can't give you an advice on it but if the doctor didn't seem too concerned over it then all should be well. I'm sure if it had been an issue they would have run more tests. Hope everything is ok :hugs:

The bottom number is good its just the top that would maybe want your dr to retake it. Some people get white coat syndrome and there BP goes up during certain DR appointments because of worrying. I had 144/90 and they just said call them if I get lots of swelling. My next visit it went down to 120/60. So try not to worry and see what it is next time you see your pregnancy DR. By the way I'm a healthy twenty year old as well... sometimes your BP can just be funny. Hope it goes down at your next visit!

if your doctor is using the digital blood pressure machine, always tell her to measure twice, because those suckers have a high rate of false measurements.

two appointments in a row when my dr took the measurement for the first time, my BP was >145/100 which is IMPOSSIBLE.

Both times, when she re-took it is was normal. 125/77.

Weird.

I had this same problem, every time I went to my doctor since being pregnant my BP was 140/90, very high. This was tested three times. She put me on a BP monitor for 24 hours and my results were astoundingly low, she said my BP was great. Again, I went back to her and got 140/90. She perscribed me BP-lowering meds, which I was hesitant to take and did not. I went to the emergancy a few days later with abdominal pain and my BP was 99/60. My nurse said I might have White Jacket Syndrome.. I just giggled. I saw another doctor and my BP was fine... seems as though it's only that one doctor.

I'm sure everything is good with you, no need to panic. As the other ladies have said, they would've expressed their concern if something was wrong. So many things to stress over while being pregnant, aren't there?

Hi hun,

When I very first fell pregnant I had my blood pressure taken and it was 145/97, so I had to relax have a general chat and then my GP took it again, then we did exactly the same again, as once you have calmed down it make a lot of difference to your reading........but I do not tend to have the white coat sydrome, so my final reading was 140/95 which meant that I had to go into have my blood pressure taken every week until it had lowered. I only had to do this for 2 weeks as on the 3rd I was absolutely fine and I remained that way through out my pregnancy.

Doctors only tend to worry about blood pressure if it is around the 90-95 (bottom number) mark as that is very high for someone who does not suffer with high blood pressure, and also for a pregnancy. So you really do not have to worry hun, you should have your blood pressure taken at every appointment anyway so if there was any concerns, it would soon be picked up.

Your blood pressure should only be done once you have calmed down and settled down once in the room, and it has as already has been said..... but if it is on a digital device, it should be done at least 2 times). x

Thanks everyone, for the posts and advice! It's so nice to have a place like this where I can come and chat with other women who may be going through the same thing! :happydance:

hey try not to worry. your BP raises all way through pregnancy. i have high BP and have had it since 24wks and i have all the signs of pre eclampsia too. as long as you are not having any other symptoms then theres no need to worry.
xxx

Some people have this thing where they stress a little about going to the doctors so their blood pressure goes up when theyre there and the doctor doesnt get an accurate reading. If he was concerned, Im sure he would have said or done something about it, but if youre still worried you can get machines than do it at home so you can test it when you're away from the doctors.

I wouldnt worry too much hun :)

Maybe it's just the extra stuff circulating??? *dunno* I have had the same problem. Before I was pregnant my blood pressure was 116/? now it's 132/?.

Like others said it could be nerves. I think i was a lil nervous last time my bp was taken.
