Hi Guys,

Well last week I spoke to my doctor last Monday about my lack of periods, she was a lot more helpful than my last doctor, basically she thought maybe underactive thyroid or PCOS (never mentioned my weight!!!) and wanted to do bloods to checks hormones etc. If they were normal she wants to do an ultrasound to check whats up with my insides.

Well I phoned this morning to get results and they have came back clear, no signs of thyroid problems and hormones are all normal but still no periods!!!!

I've got a phone consultation with my doc tomorrow afternoon, anyone got any ideas what could be causing this??

Thanks, maybe she will give me something to bring them on - probably not though!

 No ideas here either, but wanted to wish you good luck with your consultation tomorrow

I have know idea what could be the problem, I just want to wish you luck for tomorrow and send you  Let us know how it goes.

Well what a bleeding waste of time, she says the receptionist made a mistake and that one of the tests (testosterone) hasnt been received yet so I've to leave it for another week and then get another phone consultation!!!

I asked her what would happen if testosterone came back high and she said it would mean I had PCOS and she would treat the symptoms! She also mentioned the pill (I DONT WANT TO GO ON IT!!) or leave it as is if I dont mind irregular periods.

I'm a bit peed off if I'm honest,I feek if I told her I wanted a baby right now she would help me but because I have told her I would like a baby when my cycle is sorted out she isnt interested.

Anyone know what I should say to her regarding babies? I actually feel like crying again :(

#1 - DO NOT LET THEM PUT YOU ON THE PILL AND WRITE YOU OFF!

Sorry to "shout" but they did that to me for nearly 4 years! That is crap. If you never had normal periods, I doubt it will help. It did nothing for me. Tell them that you are TTC and they will probably either give you Met or Clomid or both.

Please believe me, I know just how you feel. I have high testosterone and it causes all kinds of annoying things. Ugh! For most people, Met helps but not for me so I go back to the doc in less than 2 weeks for something new.

Do you get periods at all? I got mine about every 6 to 9 months but my current doctor (who is wonderful) says that I do not ovulate at all even when I do get af.

Feel free to PM me anytime. I am really interested in what they do for you. :hugs:

Thanks for your reply, I have actually been reading a lot of your posts lately.

I'm refusing to go back on the pill, that doesnt solve the problem, I dont want fake periods anymore! If she says anything to me about the pill I'm going to tell her Im TTC, I'm sick of being fobbed off, and lets face it at 24 I'm not getting any younger and this could take years to sort out.

The last period I had was January 08, more spotting than full flow then November 07 (flooding lol) and July 07 before that, it sucks!! I had 28 day cycles from the age of 11 til I went on the pill at 18.

I just want to be taken seriously and I feel because I am overweight they dont care, my lady doctor is more overweight than I am, I thought she would understand :(

My last 3 periods were Dec '06, July '07 and Jan '08.

Like you said, I also wanted to wait to TTC until my periods were sorted out but I am going to be 28 in June and the damn periods will never be normal. (Even my docs say so... Guess I must accept that fact. :hissy:) That is why I did not seek fertility treatment until so late because I kept hoping things would fall naturally since the rest of my family has no problem getting knocked up, you know.

Now, my husband just turned 37, I'll be 28 and I do not want to be an old mother. TTC with medical assistance can be a very long road so maybe getting started on it now couldn't hurt, right?

If they think you might have PCOS and you are overweight, they will probably start you on Met. Honestly, most women on here it has worked for and maybe that is just what you need to get your cycles going without doing hormone therapy. :hugs: Don't worry, dear! Things will work out well for you and you are still young so you have time for lots of options if it, god forbid, came to that!

 I am always here if you need to talk or vent!

Hi, Im not in ttc section but just wanted to tell you my story!
2 years ago i came off my pill beacuse of problems with my periods and thought i would give them time to sort itself out, however i did not have periods for several months and when they did return i would probably have 2-3 a year.
I went to my drs many times and kept being fobbed off! all my blood tests including hormone profiles came back normal. Because i am only 25 he said he would not scan me to see if there was a problem, i must add that in 1996 i did have abdominal surgery and only ended up with 1 fully functioning ovary so he would do anything else about it! Said my chances of conceiving were 50% ( not what you want to hear at 25!!!)
In dec 2007 i actually had a period, on boxing day so very memorable! then in jan got a bfp! I was very shocked as both me and hubby thought after 2 years and what i had been told we would never have babies! A very pleasant surprise, although not perfect timing, im not complaining!
I just thought this may give you some hope, take care hope to see you in 1st tri soon xx

I'm hoping they'll do something for me as I want it sorted, probably losing weight would help also, but I dont think its that whats causing it.

I found out yesterday from a work colleague that there's a Well Woman Clinic in my town so I will definately be going there if my GP doesnt do anything.

At least it's Friday today and I have a party tonight :)

We have been TTC for 10 months now. My GP new this and did tests before we started which showed nothing as I was on the Pill for ablou 6 yrs B4 that. But after 4 months of no periods he sent me to this great Gyno who does research on PCOS and other things who pretty much confirmed what the GP thought (that I have PCOS).

He thisnks that some of symptoms have come on due to weight gain in the last 4 years, it wasnt too much though and Im not overweight.:dohh:

Trided me on clomid 3rd cycle now on 150 and it has finally started to work.

Good luck trying to get you Dr to prescribe, only specalists in NZ can prescribe met and clomid.

I dont know anything about GP's prescribing Met or Clomid in Scotland? Anyone know?

Just to let you guys know I still havent got my testosterone results back yet - been 3 weeks on Tuesday since bloods were done.

I dont have thyroid problems though and another one of the tests came back clear so now just have to wait on the last one.

Last year it was a little higher than normal but I dont know what to expect next?

Anyone?

Hi,

You mentioned your weight......how much do you weigh??

I have to say though that i agree with the others, do not let the stick you on the pill. Thats a bit like saying, we can't really be bothered to help, so take these and come back next year!!!

xxx

Well my doc just phoned me with my results, she suspects I have mild PCOS as testosterone is a little higher than normal. (I dont have any other symptoms other than irregular periods!).

She spoke about pill again which i told her no because of migraines with them, she is writing out a prescription for a pill I have to take for 5 days then a week later I should get period :) She also explained that chances are high that after a couple of cycles my periods might regulate WOO HOO!!

I know its not a good thing to have PCOS but I feel I am actually getting somewhere after over a year with problems.

So pleased i've found a doc who actually listens to what I say :)

Hi Lisa, can I ask you what the name of that pill is? I never thought I would hear myself say it but regular periods would be a dream!!!!

I was given Norethisterone tablets, I've to take 3 per day (15mg) for 5 days, usually between day 19-26 but as im so irregular I started yesterday, so this is day 2 :) Should get my period 2-3days after last pill.

Nothing to report at the moment other than a slight pain in my tummy about an hour after I take a pill, I suspect this is just the pill doing its job :)

Even bought sanitary towels today at Tesco lol - how crazy am i getting excited about getting my period - my OH said it'll be like niagara falls pmsl!!
