Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this as I haven't been ttc for all that long (5months in total), but I have been having irregular periods since coming off the pill in september and acter seeing the doctor he wants me to have some blood tests. I had my first today (on cd4) and then I have to have another one on cd21. I think he said that the cd21 will tell him if I am ovulating and the one I had to today is to test for various other things. I'm really scared what the results are going to be but I have a feeling I may already know. For about a year or so I have been getting really bad acne around my jaw line and when I googled it, it said this along with irregular periods and a few other things were symptoms of PCOS. I'm trying not to self diagnose too much because I know I haven't got the results yet but it is so hard. Has any one else had these blood tests and do you know exactley what it is they are testing me for? Would they be able to diagnose PCOS from a blood test or would I have to go for a scan. The thing is, I am pretty sure I ovulated a few months ago as I got a + on an ovulation test but haven't had one since. THe + ov test came on cd31 of my cycle which was about 42 days that time, I am now worried that I am having the second blood test on cd21 which will prob show that I haven't ov'ed but I may ovulate later on in my cycle and what if they say I'm not ov'ing but in fact I may be but after day 21. Arghhh! I've got so many questions and worries. I'm sorry for the rant, any advice or thoughts would be really appreciated. I hope you are all well.

Jo xx

CD21 blood test is to show if you ovulate. CD4 blood test is to test for the quality of your eggs. Did you explain to your doctor that you often do not ovulate until CD21 plus? I did, and he told me to go for blood tests every seven days until I got my period. That way they could properly gage the hormone balance.

They do say that it takes twelve months for the pill to properly come out of your system, though, so it's very normal to have irregular periods. i am actually surprised that you even got blood tests after only five months. Most PCT will make you wait twelve at least before even touching the tests.

Its best not to self diagnose. I was convinced I had PCOS. Turned out I had endometriosis but it's so easy to get caught up. It could be that you simply have long cycles. If you have regular 42 day cycles your periods would be considered regular. If you have cycles that range from say 21 to 75 days that would be irregular. As long as you are having periods then it is safe to assume that you are ovulating. These tests will show how good and what quality your ovulation and eggs are.

Day 21 is for progesterone. Day 4 is for FSH.
