Luke's now 3days old and my milk is coming in, we've tried to breastfeed and he refuses it, we've tried again since we got home but it's deffo not for him which is fine, we're more than happy formula feeding him and he's taking it really well. I was just wondering if any of the other formula feeding mummys could tell me how long it took for their boobs to stop hurting ect and go back to normal. Thanks :) xx xx

After my milk came in it was about 4 to 5 days. I found getting in a warm bath or putting a warm plannel on them helped. Also try not to to use a breast pump on your boobs as this will tell your body to produce more milk and will take longer for your milk to go. I know it is hard when you are very uncomfy.

Also and this is going to sound really strange but one of the girls I work with told me about it and it really works. Get a cabbage and put one leaf inside each bra cup. It really soothes, I don't know why but I felt great after it. Just keep changing the leaves when you get dressed in the morning and before going back to bed. Megan is 4 weeks old tomorrow and my boobs are still ever so slightly leaking but they have not been sore since I tried the cabbage leaves. I used them for 2 days that's all. I sympathise with you as well with the breast feeding thing as I wanted to but Megan didn't want to latch on so formula it was! It has actually turned out to be the best decision ever as I would have been exhausted if I had to feed Megan everytime on my own boobies! At least this way she is getting all the nutrition she needs and I can get some rest as OH takes some feeds! Good luck hun.

Mine didn't come in till day 6 but they were painful for about a week. They leaked for about 6 weeks though, was a right pain in the bum !

I couldnt breast feed, took only 2 days, expressed once (only little milk came out), then used warm water & breast massage. But I didnt have much milk.

Mine stopped hurting at about 4 days. Cabbage leaves are supposed to help due to the enzymes in them. I didn't try it though.

Im still leaking now!!! I tried to bf for 1st few days but failed, then tried again on advice at 12 days and breastfed for 2 days then lo refused it and so here i am still leaking 3 months later!!

Harrison is 10 days old now and i noticed yesterday my milk had practically stopped and my boobs have gone down considerably and dont really hurt that much now at all. my milk came in after a couple of days. I also tried breastfeeding on wednesday but he wouldnt latch on at all, i tried expressing but only a little came out, since doing that the pain eased.

Cabbage leaves work wonders!!! Helps with the swelling :) Do it!!
Also, I havent been BF now for 4 weeks and my boobs are still leaking. The swelling/pain and hardness, for me took about 4 - 5 days to go down. My MW advised me to try and not get too much hot water on them as it makes them pringe and they automatically start to think baby is ready for a feed... how strange does that sound!!! But i found that when i was in the shower, just massaging the underneath of them helped to relieve the pain. Whatever you do, dont try expressing!!!! This also lets your body think your still feeding and will carry on producing. You need to let it 'dry up'.

Have u thought about expressing to let down the milk?

I did this once every evening for a week the every 2 days then 3 now no leaking and normal boobs plus if your babys anything like mine the will want comfort feeding on breast and she still gets something.

Love the ease of formula myself but being able to comfort on breast saves hours of screaming.

I decided to stop expressing yesterday and are using cabbage leafs as we speak : D it definitely made difference as they are not that sore any more (but still too sore to give proper hug to my LO :S) I will let you know how it goes.
