Hi all,

I went to dr's today with something completely unrelated and happened to mention that I have thrush again and would like a prescription. She asked how often I get it and then checked my last blood tests which showed borderline bloodsugars. It wasn't a fasting test though as it wasn't a test for diabetes. She said the blood tests and recurrent thrush are enough to make her concerned that it could be diabetes. I have to do a fasting blood test tomorrow and wait a week for results (argh!).

I'm now very anxious. I've googled which was stupid.

I am only slightly overweight (bmi 26) and eat healthily (I was very overweight/obese a few years ago but have lost most of it). So type 2 is a possibilty but so is type 1! I had no idea you could develop it as an adult.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Thanks x

Strange you've posted this today. I've been to docs this morning and am going for a blood test to check my sugar levels. My reason is that I've been very thirsty over the past couple of months. No other symptoms (no thrush here). Have you been thirsty?

To be honest, I hadn't really thought about it. I've been on a diet so have been drinking a lot of water to feel fuller anyway. And I've always got up to pee at night! Will keep an eye out. I am just completely shocked to be honest. When I told my mum she reminded of a few funny turns I've had over the last few weeks when I've not eaten on time. I almost collapsed. It does all add up...

Sorry you're going through it too though I'm glad you're not getting the thrush, it's a nightmare!

x

I didn't have thrush but I had recurrent boils before I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and still get them if I'm naughty with my control. Other symptoms I had were extreme tiredness, thirst and urinating. It was so bad I once actually slightly peed myself because I was too tired to wake up! By the time I went to the doctors though my blood sugars were very high which is why my symptoms were so severe.

oh dear, I get recurrent boils too. Got two beauties at the moment. Didn't connect it though. I know it could be totally unrelated to diabetes but the symptoms are stacking up. This morning I was worried about red veins/rosacea on my face and now I could be facing diabetes :dohh: I should stay away from the drs...

Salamander - are you pretty much in control of yours now? Do you take medication?

Yes, I'm fairly well controlled now. I take metformin tablets most of the time but I was on insulin during pregnancy.

Try not to worry too much. If your sugars were only borderline it may just be that you need to adjust your diet. As long as you stay in control and look after yourself you'll be fine :)

Hi again ladies

The weird thing with me is that I have increased thirst but am not peeing any more than usual! I sometimes pee once during the night but it's usually when I just happen to have woke for another reason (my daughter stirring etc). So it seems my body is needing the extra fluid for some reason! No tiredness out of the ordinary or boils either. Let me know how your results go Laurajo, hope it turns out that it's not diabetes x

Thanks Nat. Had the test this morning and oh my God, skipping a meal really doesn't agree with me! Had to wait till 10am as it was so busy. Have felt rubbish ever since, absolutely exhausted. Just got the anxious wait for results now. will update x

Hi LauraJo. Just checking in to see if you've had your results and how you are?

Hiya, called the dr's yesterday and all is well, thank goodness! My skin problems and thrush are obviously unconnected, just bad luck! Have you had your results? x

Oh that's great news :). I've not even managed to go and have my blood test yet! Going Friday morning. Still thirsty a lot but it varies day to day. I don't have any other symptoms x

Finally having my blood test today! My LO ended up at hospital end of last week so I couldn't get mine done. Going to be nervous of these results :-(.
