I *adore* these. I first tasted them when I was living in the states, and since I've been living in the UK I've changed the recipe several times over until I feel it's perfect.
Prep time: about 10mins
Cook time: about 30mins
3 tins of heinz baked beans
1/3 cup treacle
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
6 tablespoons ketchup
1 large onion, diced
* heat pan with a little oil and fry the onions until soft (not brown).
* Place beans in ovenproof dish.
* In a saucepan, combine treacle, sugar, mustard, salt, pepper, ketchup and worcestershire sauce. Bring the mixture to a slow boil and pour over beans and mix through.
* add in cooked onions.
* cover with foil and bake for 30mins on Gas Mark 4/180C/350F
You can also add cooked bacon to this recipe. Just dice it, and fry it off with the onions.
