I am travelling from Gatwick airport and on their website it says you can carry made up formula through security in a baby bottle (amount to justify your travel) but it does not say if i can just take water for the LO as they get dehydrated.
Has anyone travelled through Gatwick security with just a baby bottle full of water? Were you allowed, or was it taken away?

you can buy a bottle of water once you have got through security but they wont let you take just water normally, they will tell you to buy a new one when you get through xx

We had water in the bottles and formula in powder form to be added as needed, and they made us throw out ALL of the water. We just headed straight for a cafe and asked it they could fill up our bottles with boiling water, and they were happy to do so. We also did this in Malaga airport. I think they are very understanding, so you shouldn't worry. We were annoyed because we were very delayed through check-in, so we had to run straight to the cafe, and then run straight to the plane. But there was no way I was about to board the plane without water

I travelled from Vancouver to UK in April to visit family (i moved here from Bristol when i was 19).

Security in Canada was awesome, totally understood we have a baby and need to feed him (he was 7 months old at the time). But coming back to Canada from Gatwick, England.. They wanted us to open every single carton of premade formula (bearing in mind that they are sealed) and every single pot of Heinz baby food and they made us dispose of all pre boiled water.

I flipped my lid. If i opened every carton of premade formula then they would all go bad within the hour and i wouldn't be able to feed them to my son. I had to speak to managers etc etc and they then said i would have to open 50% of all baby food/formula. I again told them that i was travelling on a 10 hour flight with a stop over and i couldn't do that.

They told me to go buy formula from a store once i got through security. I refused and eventually got away with just opening and tasting ONE carton of formula and tasting all baby food.

Im glad i put up a fight as once i got through security (at 11:30pm) there wasn't a single store open, so my kid would have starved and we lost the water that we had for him as well.

I dont have any advise i'm afraid. They say one thing on their websites and when you call them... Yet couldn't really care less if you have a baby when you try to go through security.

Good luck though hun :D

I can't believe the difference between airports. We were recently going through Bristol airport and I brought a cup of water through for Aisling and no-one even questioned it, wasn't asked to taste it or anything. Airport security is ridiculous, who cares if a baby goes hungry because mum was forced to throw out their spoiled formula, as long as we're sticking to the 'rules' that's all that matters

:dohh:
I agree. Personally i think the hour that they spent questioning me etc, could most definitely have been better spent catching some 'bad guys'!!

I travelled from Gatwick in September and we took baby bottles of water and the powder separate and they made us taste the water at security, i had the same at Stansted in May. I also took my son's sippy cup for him for on the flight and they made us taste that.

What i will say is when you go through security at Gatwick you have to put the baby bottles in the tray's separate from your hand luggage - i got told off for not doing that.
