How long after a csection did it take to actually poop? Mine was wednesday and I haven't had a bowel movement yet plenty of gas pressure and a bit of gas, but no actual movement. The doctors didn't tell me anything. I've just started being able to partially feel those muscles again but I'm scared to actually push to poop.

With me it was about 5 days later, but there was absolutely no effort needed on my part at all. I'm still worried about pushing now at 16 days pp, so very curious about this too.

Hiya,

Just to reassure you when I had my son 2 years ago via section i think it was about 5 days before i went! I was a little worried but the docs werent.
I remember i kept disappearing to the loo thinking i needed to go...but nothing!
Did get uncomfortable gas though.
Dont worry you will go when your body is ready :) Dont force the matter.

Hope this reassures you:flower:

Haha, not to long ago I actually had my bm, and tmi, bout to have another! Yay! Never been so happy to see poop in my life!

I got really constipated after my first section. I learned for the next two to start taking a stool softner twice a day unitl i was regular. It isn't a laxative so their is no immediate action. it just helps your stool retain water so it is easier to pass. i would look at colace or surfak- both over the counter.

it was 5 days after section for me...but i didn't go 2 days before labor either, so a week all together. i ended up having to take a laxative because it wouldn't come out. TMI but it was extremely painful for me ... and i clogged the toilet :haha:

mine was the afternoon after. had loads of gas before hand though, I was so embarrassed and worried that the midwives could hear. luckily I had my own room after the section.

Hi,
Not had my baby yet but think were heading towards a section as he's stuck in breech and is posterior. Just wondering if constipation is a normal/typical/common occurrence after a section? And why?

Constipation is normal due to all of your insides being manipulated. Plus most of the pain medicine slows sown your intestines afterwards.
