Ok, maybe I am being over the top so some opinions would be appreciated.

We have finally narrowed the list of boys' names to about half a dozen, and are leaning towards Alistair or Aidan Thomas. The thing is, with our surname (which begins with M) his initials will read A.T.M. As in cash machine.

Another combination is Ewan Thomas. But then his first two initials will read E.T. (Extra Terrestrial)

My husband likes Benjamin Thomas- B.T. (British Telecom)

These are just a few examples but to be honest, almost every name combination we pick seems to have some weird acronym to it and I just wondered how far do you go in worrying about this stuff??

I like Benjamin and Thomas a lot, Alistair too but Aiden is a really popular name now so I personally would avoid that. I don't think initial thing really matters does it? People probably won't notice and by the time it might matter, ie: when he's grown up, the ATM and BT one's probably won't mean anything anymore anyway.

it would probably put me off too tbh but if i really loved the name and say the initials were going to be like atm. then what are people going to say? "oh haha like a cashline " not exactly funny is it ?! its not like you would be giving him a name with initials then meant something really horrible :) But i can see why it would put you off but if I LOVED THE NAME then i wouldnt let it bother me how often are there initials actually used?

xx

TBH I wouldnt worry about the first and middle initial too much. They dont tend toi be used a lot, not liek first name and surname initials.

I wouldnt let it put me off a name unless the initials were something like STD or spelt a word like GIT, COW or BUM :haha:, and as Embojet said you dont often use all the initials together. ATM wouldnt bother me at all . xx

I agree, it wouldn't put me off. My friend is BT and her sister is ET and they've never had any problems with being teased so far as I know xx

Thanks for the opinions!

I kind of realised after I typed my worries that I was probably whittling over something pretty insignificant, but that's hormones for you!

x

My initials are ET, in Primary School I got a few 'phone home' comments (but I could probably count them on 1 and a bit hands) and that is it... I wouldn't worry about it. In fact I like having initials that actually mean something :D

I wouldn't worry about his initials to be honest! I think Ewan and Aidan are nice x
