Hi there

Sadly I am not one of the lucky ones who sheds weight while breastfeeding and am still carrying 20lb of pregnancy weight.

I would like to loose this over the next 3 months however am a little nervous that any sort of diet may affect my milk supply.

Does anyone have any experience and advice for dieting while breast feeding. I am not planning any kindof crash diet, just tracking calories, making healthier food choices and somehow finding time to exercise a couple of times a week.

Stalking lol
Im in the same boat. Older FTM with a couple of stone to lose but also desperate not to disrupt milk supply. Little one is now 4mths old.
Im 5ft 5" & 14 stone, really want to get my weight & bmi down. New year, new start & all that :-)

What about trying slimming world. They advocate a good calorie intake and never being hungry. It teaches you to make better choices for example having one half of your plate as salad or veg, one quarter protein (meat) and one quarter carbs.

The trick is to go slow, not reduce your calories too much. I did calorie counting for a while, doing if it fits your macros, and I found if I cut down to 1500 calories I saw a reduction in milk supply, but if I stayed above 1700 I was okay. I shot for 1750-1850 a day (I needed about 2100 to maintain my weight while BF'ing) it worked. Before I conceived this baby I was down 13lbs in about 2 months, just taking it slow. I was also down 17lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight, which is good. I'm 19 weeks along and STILL don't weight as much as I did when I got pregnant with DS, all thanks to dieting while BF'ing before I started TTC.

I'm aiming for 1750 calories a day so sounds like I've got it about right. Did really well yesterday, accidently fell back into old dieting ways so had to make up extra calories at supper to get up to 1750!

I'm not sure about slimming world or weight watchers. I've seen great things with friends and learnt quite a bit from a colleague actually but I don't fancy the commitment to groups. I'd rather try and find my own way of eating better, I may stand a better chance of sticking too it then!

Exercise has always helped for me in the past, I used to do a lot of zumba on my wii fit. I could burn 650 calories in 45 mins! Not ever finding the time to do it though with a baby and my toddler at my feet trying to join in! Going to try a weekly class instead.
