I plan to breast feed my little one once shes/hes here.. Im not due until April 22nd, so i still have a bit to go.. I heard that breast feeding helps you lose some baby fat that you've gained during pregnancy?.. Is this true, has it happened to help anybody lose some weight?

ive lost all of my baby weight, im actually skinnier than i was before i got preg lol and i blame it all on breastfeeding!

Lucky you... Im so nervous that I wont be able to get back in shape lol..Thanks for replying.

I'm not losing much weight at the moment but that's because I'm eating a load of rubbish... Breastfeeding uses around 300-500 calories a day so if you're eating a healthy diet you should lose weight. I've just read it's important not to cut calories too much though as it can effect your milk supply (hadn't heard that before, was told that wasn't the case when I asked about it in hospital).

it's a really useful website :)

I put on 3 stone during my pregnancy and I lost 2.5 without doing a thing. I was eating like a horse to start with and it was gently coming away. Now she's weaning a bit it's slowed down so I'm doing Slimming World to try to get the last few pounds off. I think thats more to do with me and my physical make up though - I'd always struggled with my weight. Saying that this week I've eaten loads of crap, breast fed less and still managed to clock up a lose at tonights weigh in!!!

I weigh less now than what i did before i got pregnant! With my first id gone back to my original weight in 4 weeks. I think it defo does help.

This is not the case :) You shouldn't cut calories too much as your body needs nurishment to heal after labor and pregnancy, and just stay healthy. Making milk does exert a bit more on your body and as you said, it requires 300-500 calories a day to make milk.

But milk you produce in a given day doesn't come from the food you eat that day (or even the day before), it uses stores of energy and minerals and vitamins- much like when you were pregnant.

Yes, eat healthy, stay active and you will loose weight.

Eat for 2 and you will be the size of two people :)

I know people who have lost loads and some who have stored their fat, as you say I think it depends on what your eating :D

I've got ma nose in a box of thorntons to counteract this phenomenon

Yep me too!! During pregnancy I gained 13kgs. I lost 11kgs in the first week and now at 6 weeks Ive lost a further 4 kgs. Im hoping to loose 10 more kgs because I was overweight to begin with.
.

I am about a stone lighter than before I got pregnant, even though I feel like I eat loads (inc lots of choc and cakes!) I think this is mainly down to breastfeeding but also due to the fact that I barely drink alcohol now ( a glass a night as opposed to the best part of a bottle ), I also walk a lot every day so that we both get some fresh air.

When I worked I was sat behind a desk a lot and also ate out of boredom. I am NEVER bored now :)

I'm exactly the same. One stone lighter than before I got pregnant, and now I think of it, the alcohol was probably a major contributing factor. Plus, as you say, I am always on the go now and not stuck on my rear end in an office from 9-5.30.

I'm loving it!

The vino has must be a BIG factor! I have a glass most nights where as before I would :wine: then :drunk:

I FF and i lost all my baby weight...my advice is to eat three healthy meals a day.....cos i used to forget to eat in the early days when Maley was born

It's not always easy to lose weight while breastfeeding as everytime I breastfeed I get unnaturally hungry all the time:hissy::hissy::hissy::hissy::hissy::hissy:
I only put on about 4lbs in my last pregnancy so was under my pre-pregnancy weight after I gave birth. Erm, I'm a wee bit heavier now:blush: as I just can't control this massive hunger:cry:

A couple of other people I know have said that they get really hungry when they breastfeed too.

"Studies have shown that most healthy breastfeeding women maintain an abundant milk supply while taking in 1800-2200 (or more) calories per day. Consuming less than 1500-1800 calories per day (most women should stay at the high end of this range) may put your milk supply at risk, as may a sudden drop in caloric intake. ."

(from https://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/mom/mom-calories-fluids.html ). It's a reputable website, it's one a bf mw recommended to me.

I think it's talking about long term reduced calorie intake or a sudden fast. Just something worth bearing in mind to avoid going over the top with it as a knee jerk reaction to the post birth stomach :hugs: x

Totally agree about the healthy active thing - and wear your baby that's got to burn loads of calories and as your baby gets bigger you'll get stronger :)

 x
