Hi All...

I'm attempting to feed my 10 week old son his first bottle of formula. He's never had a bottle before and doesn't appear to be taking to it too well.

Do you have any tips on getting him to accept a teat and how long should i persevere with it until i give in to putting him on the breast for a feed?

Urgent replies would be much appreciated.

When I introduced a bottle to begin with I used expressed breast milk and left the room and let my mum feed Olivia and she was fine. She was only 4 weeks old at the time though. Once she was happy taking EBM, she was then given formula, and after a few weeks I fed her myself with a bottle.

Yeah, if she wont take it from you then get someone else to try with her, if she can smell you then she will want the milk from you.

Have you got a bottle that do a variflow teat? This can sometimes make the transition easier.

i'm experiencing the same problem. made worse by the fact that i am going back to work in february and so am extra nervous. i have tried lots of different bottles and formula. the ones we found best was aptamil. ( i tasted it as well and wasn't as bad as some of the other formulas) we are also on Mam bottles after trying a beaker, tt closer 2 nature and nuk.
he will now accept having the teat in his mouth and has begun to suck on in and when it is taken away he looks for it. this is going from screaming when it touched his lips!!!! the way we have done it is a slow introduction every day offering the bottle and making it fun, or using distraction. Finley reacted the same whoever was giving him the bottle and strangely was happier taking it from me than my husband! after a week of playing with it with him we are now going to start dropping a breast feed. this was met with frustration today but i perservered and didn't offer the breast.
its very frustrating and i'm hating it. i don't want to starve him into submission which some have told me to do!
