Breastfeeding pain- due to period?

Hi girls.
DD is 10 weeks old. Since Tuesday I've been having pain in my left nipple, it feels like someone scratching me with a pin. When DD feeds it's sore but also feels like a relief. She's very fussy on that side atm- hitting my breast and feeding quite ferociously so I figured I maybe had a blocked duct she was working to relieve. My breast is a bit hot and I've been feeling quite cold-y so I was worried I was getting mastitis but it's not got any worse so I don't think it is.
I got my period back on Thursday so I'm wondering whether it's down to that? With my DS my period returned at 6 weeks but I didn't really notice any difference with BFing.
Anyway, I'm wondering whether others have had the same when their period returned?

Now that af is back more regularly for me i think it can cause sore nipples. I notice they get sore round ovulation, and round af.

Mine get sore when feeding few days before Af arrives, not too bad now but the first few AF/bf were very sore and didn't put 2 and 2 together for ages!

oh and he did used to get very fussy when feeding too, popping off and on and crying but that has gotten better too.
