Getting way ahead of myself here, but im going to breastfeed when bump arrives in october, now, i will be breastpumping for when we go out and about and i've gotten the tommee tippee brestpump, but it looks painful! they all do, and i was wondering if its really sore? and what does it feel like?

I much rather have baby on the breast. Pumping is hard for me to do as I can 't get much from a feed.

It seems very forced and unnatural - but I do it for the storage of the breastmilk.

I use the manual Avent Isis. It was recommended to me by a friend who has similar issues that I do. I've been very pleased with it over a $300 Medela Pump In Style that I have. The Medela just sits in the closet now. The Avent gets used 3 times a week or so.

I tend to get sore around the nipple if I try to draw out milk too hard too fast. And if I am not patient, I often ache a bit in the deeper breast tissue for a while.

On a pain scale of 1 to 10 either pain (at it's worst) is probably 3-4. Not really anything to worry about. Most of the time there is little to no pain (1-2 on pain scale).

Hope that helps!

You need to make sure the pump is latched correctly to prevent chapping, and I dont know if the pump you got has settings. But alot of the electric ones have different settings and will even save a certain suckling pattern to mimic the babies pattern.

Some people suggest warming your breast with a warm towel or cloth too, and drinking lots of water while you express to help with the successfullnes.

Some people find the hand pump work just fine or better too. It depends on how much pumping you actually will be doing, I will be pumping for going out and having company, and also for my OH to enjoy the feeding too. I wont be breastfeeding at all though.

From what i've been told and read on here, breastfeeding is painful and tiring also... So either way!

I have the Avent Manuel Isis and a friend let me borrow her The First Years electric. I used the manual at the beginning and could get about 4 oz from both breasts, with the electric I get 6 oz in about 15 mins. The other day I was out and about and took the manual with me, in about 3 mins I got 4 oz. from one breast. The electric one is hard for me to get the milk flowing and it's a little more painful. It doesn't hurt, just a little uncomfortable.

i also have the tommee tippee one.... doesnt hurt at all!! I actually like it :):) especially when they need relieving lol!!

I do like baby on breast too but like you dont feel comfortable doing it out and about!!

My nipples were only sore on the first 2 days and that was because my baby was latching on sucking then pulling away and the air to my wet nipple continuously was making them sore!! But they soon calmed down :)
