Hi everyone
Last Tuesday (38+5) I awoke to find I had had my show, and felt a bit odd like my period was coming. I was sure it was the early signs of labour, so I went into hospital as baby was breech and I had very quick labours with my dd and ds (though I was very overdue with them).
On arrival, I was put on the CTG which showed a few small irregular tightenings, and my cervix was checked and was closed, though it was anterior and quite soft. A scan confirmed baby still breech. I was already booked for an ECV two days later and they couldn't do it sooner as only one doc does it and he only works a Thurs. They decided to admit me to the ward for monitoring just to keep an eye due to my history of quick births and the baby being breech.
I was checked again that evening, and was 2-3cm and cervix very soft, so was kept in overnight. On Wednesday morning at 9am I started to get contractions, they were proper ones, with the pain going round to my back and down my thighs. At 9.30am I was examined and found to be 5cm so was told an emergency section was necessary, right away.
I was gutted, and cried my heart out. Another doc appeared right away to go through paperwork and he inserted cannula. My sister appeared and she rang my hubby, who arrived shortly after. I was taken up to delivery suite at 10.30am, where again I was put on the CTG. A consultant came in and checked me, I was 8cm. He suggested I try a vaginal birth, but as much as I didn't want a section, I was frightened of the babys' head getting stuck, so reluctantly I said I wanted the section. Went into theatre at 11am and had spinal, hated the numbness in the legs!
Was checked again at 11.20am and was fully dilated. Again consultant asked to break my waters and try vaginal birth. I said yes as I felt safe in theatre should anything go wrong, they could do section immediately.
He broke my waters. Had to wait for mw to tell me I was having a contraction, then started to push. Was really weird not being able to feel if I was pushing properly! After 2 pushes, the doc said he could see the bum, which was a bit surreal! Couple more pushes and baby was out. I had been told to expect a slightly smaller than average baby, but nothing could prepare me for the tiny wee bundle that was flung onto my tummy! Saw I had another daughter
and then she was handed to paediatrician, as she wasn't crying. She was given oxygen, and was soon in my arms
Didn't tear at all thankfully, no surprise though as she was only 5lb 1oz!
She ended up in SCBU for a few days, but is fine now
and doing really well. She had stopped breathing about an hour after birth, so they thought she may have an infection so she was treated with antibiotics. Was a pretty horrible time, tho luckily I was able to stay with her all the time.
My other 2 births were fab, with no pain relief at all, so having the soinal was like the complete opposite end of the scale. I was very sick for the rest of the day, though not sure if that was the spinal, or caused by fasting from the morning before or all the upset with her being unwell.
So happy to be home, her brother and sister love her to bits. Oh, and we called her Cara xx
