I was wondering if anyone had any hiking/camping trips planned and whether or not you were going to use any bug spray?

I will be in the Smoky Mountains for a few days and also a two day camping trip in which I will definitely need to use some bug spray. I'm worried about the potential dangers to my baby, but I'm more fearful of ticks than I am the bug spray I think.

My doctor said it would be fine but any potentially dangerous chemicals still scare me a bit.

Anyone else plan on using any bug spray and which one do you plan on using?

Also, I found this study indicating that sprays with DEET are safe for pregnant women.

Stalking. I live in Minnesota and we camp in Canada, and the mosquitoes are horrendous!

I'm camping this summer and will be using bug spray. I can't stand mosquitoes and I don't want to risk getting west nile or lyme disease from ticks. I'd rather use DEET but everything I've read is saying not to.. it's the best one that I know of though :(

Check out that link I posted. They did on a study on almost 1000 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters and I think they used the bug spray continuously with no ill effects on babies. And most animal studies didn't show any defects either with way more DEET than we will get from camping a few times. So I think I will probably just use the deet stuff since it's probably the best at preventing ticks/mosquitoes.
