Booked in for my section on Thursday and I'm actually terrified, I have convinced myself I am going to be paralysed from the Epi, die because I won't stop bleeding and if I do survive I will die from an infection! :'( I am such a worrier, and I hate google! I try and google positive things but always stumble across something to scare the living day lights out of me! I just want to chill out so I can enjoy the day my baby will finally be here <3 but saying that I have seen so many more positive c section stories than bad its just not something I expected.. I hope baby is very comfy sat there all snuggled up with his head in my ribs!

Anyway I just have some questions just to make me feel a little less unorganised and a bit more prepared, I have anxiety and really don't want to be bugging the midwives etc unless there is good reason!

-x- when did you get up & start walking? I'm a bit of a wimp & a drama queen but I really want to be up and about as soon as its safe for me, just wondering how long it was for you?

-x- I am so paranoid of getting an infection and although there probably isn't lots I can do to prevent it does anyone have any useful info they were given or what they did themselves?

-x- what knickers did you all wear? I'm assuming I'm gonna need some huge ones to go over the scar, someone somewhere mentioned men's boxers did the trick but I don't know!

-x- there's a thread about trapped wind after op, what did you all use? it says in my notes if I get it bad just ask the nurses and they'll give me but I'd rather be organised and as independent as poss rather than bugging them all the time! I am wanting to breast feed so would also like something that I can use safely

i think thats it for now but if you have any other tips and advice it would be sooo greatfully received! I feel so clueless, the consultant and the midwife gave me no information what so ever apart from the risks of the op! :(

i do have my pre op on Sunday so might get an oppurtunity to find out a little bit more but i find the best advice comes from mummies who have been through it :)
Thank you all :hugs:

Hi there,

Don't panic! I had an emcs and it was a really positive experience (bef ore that I'd said if I had to have a section I would freak!)

I picked up an Infection and as far as I know there's nothing you can do to prevent it, but a few days of antibiotics (at home) and everything was sorted. I didn't even know I had an infection but I was shaking on the operating table.

I was up and walking around within 2 hours, you'll be taken to recovery first where they'll monitor blood pressure etc so you won't be able to move, plus you'll be holding and gooing over baby then!

I wore normal knickers, just big pants! You'll have dressing on so nothing will rub to begin with, I didn't feel the need to get massive pants.

I didn't suffer with trapped wind to be honest to I can't help you there, sorry.

Make sure that everything you need is next to you in hospital before your visitors leave, I struggled massively with lifting LO after the op and everything was in the floor!!

Also take lots of maternity pads for bleeding.

Enjoy, it's amazing and you'll have your gorgeous baby

Xx

Bless you I was just the same. I had a bad V birth with my first so 2nd was a section. Just like you I was convinced everything would go wrong!! .... Absolutely nothing went wrong. The experience was AMAZING!!!
I delivered at noon and was up the next day at noon so 24 hrs. But I didn't feel bedridden at all I just lay in bed with my new bambino and time flew! It took me 3 attempts to stand as I got a little light headed each time. After that I was shuffling to the loo myself. I had all pain meds they offered as people told me just to take it all and I didn't feel pain just a bit odd sensation. I didn't bleed lots I just used Always normal pads. I had no infections just keep a very close eye on your wound the first sign of any infection get onto the Drs and they will sort you out asap. I was brought masses of toast on my stay and looked after so well! The actual section from epi to recovery was no more than an hour possibly 45 mins. All the very best and ENJOY your experience. Always think Possibility Vs Probability... these issues are possible but not probable!! Xxx

Also I wore normal nicknaks with lace round the top so there was no pressure on the wound but they did sit on my wound it wasn't sore xxx

Good luck for the morning!! You'll be absolutely fine and so will bubba, if you've seen anything I've ever posted since my section in October you'll know how positive and straightforward I found it!
Big pants, walking when you feel able and remember how common elective sections are.. Nothing is rushed as there's no need with an elective.. Mum and baby are healthy and it's not being performed to get baby out ASAP!
I was walking after 36 hours.. Tried at 24 hours but BP dropped (pre existing condition,) and I blacked out, so rested again until the evening!

Relax and enjoy xx

Hi best of luck for the morning!
You will be fine, horror stories will leave you stressed but most women have a perfectly fine section.

I was up and walking 8 hours after my section. Walking just a few steps around my bed etc but up and walking around properly the following day. Getting up and walking is key to preventing blood clots you will be given anti clotting injections too.

Infection is rare enough, keep an eye on your incision and dont have sex till your lochia has stopped.

I wore BIG granny panties! Totally unflattering but trust me you will need them. Low elastic around you incision will hurt and midwives will ask you to get big ones anyways.

I did suffer from trapped wind after my section and it did hurt. I still get it a little and its uncomfortable especially around my incision. ( I only had my section almost 7 weeks ago.)

You will be fine good luck!
xx
