Just wondering who has had a CS with an anterior placenta. My placenta is low and the doc mentioned I'll need a c-section if it doesn't move up. At this stage it still seems likely that it will move so I'm really not worried about it but if I'm the kind of person who likes to know about all the possibilities :).

I've heard that a low anterior placenta is tricky when it comes to a CS because the placenta is in the way of where they cut. So if it happened to you did they have to cut through the placenta? Cut in a different place? Did it cause more bleeding? etc...

I had anterior placenta, but mine moved high enough where they were still able to cut in the normal (above the pubic line) area. Not sure how that works if it's right there, though I worried about it too! It will probably move, try not to worry TOO much.

Thanks for your input. Can I ask why you got a C-section? Did it have anything to do with the placenta being low? In my case the whole reason I'd be getting a C-section is because the placenta is in the way so I'd assume it will be in the way of the C-section too. I'm really not worried about it at the moment because I think it's going to move, and so does the doctor, but I'm the kind of person who doesn't like surprises so, on the off chances I end up needing a C-section, I'd rather find out what I can about it now than be panicking about it later :).

Anterior placentas are the most common location for them (what my OB told me). It is written in big letters at the top of my chart so I imagine if I needed a C-section that would be useful information. I am sure they just relocate the incision in the uterus! :)

I'm not 100% sure but I think they just cut in the normal place. The birth is so quick and they're removing the placenta anyway so maybe it doesn't matter?

An anterior placenta is no problem as long as it isn't low, which so far mine is, but I'm still counting on it moving up.

I guess they do cut in the same place which means they have to cut through the placenta if it is low. There are some more risks involved because it means cutting the baby's oxygen supply before it is out and the mother is likely to loose more blood but as long as they are prepared for it and are careful there should not be a massive problem.
