Can a failed sweep still have some kind of positive effect?

I had a sweep yesterday afternoon, my mw said my cervix is soft and stretchy but still quite thick (1cm)..she said the 1st one probably wont work..but i may have some bleeding after..well when i got home i had abit of pinky discharge..since then ive been getting clumps of bloody mucous..still am this evening..i woke up from a nap earlier with mild cramps then had diarrhea (sorry)..i know my sweep most likely hasnt worked but is there still a chnce that the sweep has helped things along a little bit? Im desperate to go into labour myself this time as i went 2 weeks over with lo and had to be induced..

its all good signs, I usually had the same symptoms after a sweep and went into labor shortly after...within a few days to a week. I found lots of sex always helped too!!

Those sound like promising signs, I had a sweep with my 3rd & it worked - I had the symtoms you're describing

Good luck , I remember you from 2010 - I was expecting my 3rd, think you were expecting your 1st little boy (I was much more of a lurker then). Keep us updated x

when i went for mine i was 4cm but still thick that was last tues i had my baby thurs i didn't bleed from the sweep but i had loads of thick cm.

I had mild aches this morning again but no contractions..im under no illusion that its not worked tjis time but i definately think i must be loosing my plug? I thought the amount id had before my sweep was alot but im still 2 days later getting bloody/brown globs of mucous..so much its making me feel sick i read yesterday that if you have a bloody show after a sweep its not the same as having it naturally and doesnt really mean labour is on its way..does anybody agree? I feel a little disheartened by that
I have another sweep booked for monday so hopefully thatll get things going ! X

I had mine on tues and im still losing what sounds like the same as you. I keep thinking its stopped and next time i look, more comes out. Its disgusting. I had cramping and back pain on the day.. now just feeling generally uncomfortable. I know mine didnt work

I've been keeping my eye on you since your induction thread months back Gypsy! I went two weeks over with dd and had to be induced too and really want this one to come naturally! How overdue are you now? I'm only one day and they won't try a sweep until Tues next week! Fingers crossed something happens for you soon xx
