Can Braxton-Hicks be strong enough to wake you up?

My braxton hicks have been strong since yesterday. Last nght they woke me up three times. I was in so much pain I could hardly walk, and I thought I was going to be sick. Each time I woke up with them they were hours apart so I know they weren't real contractions. But they've been strong! It scares the hell outta me to think these are only little tiny practice ones because what will the real things be like!?!?!

Anyone else had painful BH's?

I had a similar pain to this the other night, but being my third baby I knew it wasn't braxton hicks.. I would have put money on it being a contraction, but after it eased I realised it was a really bad case of my ibs playing up and trapped wind! Yes it really can be that painful, try not to worry Hun xxx

I get ibs cramps that I feel are worse than labour! They make the bump tighten too! I can literally cry and cry in agony with ibs, but contractions I can handle. Try and drink more, that way if they are braxtons then they may calm. And if it's tummy cramps then the wind/poo will get easier to deal with.
Good luck

My Braxton Hicks woke me up and I had a few painful ones (others had a tightening uncomfortable sensation that made me excited). When it was period like, lower pain and close enough to wake you up and continue to keep you awake I would worry. Mine would wake me and I would sit up awake for an hour or two and it would all settle down and I could go back to sleep..... the real deal was no going back to sleep and I would stop in my tracks and wait for it to pass and then continue to get ready to go.

I had so many false starts, it was frustrating, but it sounds like you are not far away.

That's exactly what mine are like. Just make sure to call your doctor if you have more than 6 in one hour.

I was having them all night last night, I had about 5 different dreams where in each dream I was having them to! So I could tell I had them all through the night. I wouldn't worry about them as the body has to warm up for labour, just keep track of them and if they get more intense as time passes give m/w a call.

I am currently experiencing a BH contraction that are painful. They also woke me up this morning and got me out of bed as well. It scares me to think about going into labor someday because I don't know if I will be able to handle the pain knowing that these are just the warmup exercises! Yicks! My contractions also last for several hours. They are just a constant tightness in my entire abdomen with slight back pains as well that don't seem to go away when walking, changing positions, ect. I'm only 25 weeks so I know Im no where near my due date, so what can I do to try to shorten these contractions or make them bareable?

First of all contact your doctor or midwife, they a want to check you over to make sure you aren't having contractions rather than BH. Generally, BH's aren't painful, just uncomfortable but I do know this can differ with each individual. Dehydration can also cause frequent BH's, so make sure you are drinking lots xx

This thread is from a few years ago. Everyone's tickers say they're 140+ weeks pregnant. LOL!

I had very similar pain also but the very painful BH contractions never lasted very long. I would have about 4 in a row and then they would disappear. If they continue, just ring and ease your mind
