Hi girls i'm really confused as my hairdresser says its totally safe and so have plenty of ppl but i cant help but worry as i've also heard its dangerous to use peroxide during pregnancy.
I have highlighted hair....not totally blonde but my roots r awlful lol I've been putting it off til i hit 2nd tri but then thinking wot if its still not safe?!
Of course my baby comes b4 my own vanity so if it turns out it is a risk i wont be dying my hair!
Plz help its sooo confusing wots right n wots wrong?!

I'm looking forward to any answers you get from this!

I went online and basically they said that you should try and wait till 2nd tri but that no matter what you should try not to leave it on for too long and also you should be in a well ventilated area.

I get my hair done at home by a teacher from the vidal sasson colouring school and she said the same that there is no proven relation to there being any problems. But I worry too!

However also I know that if I wait till my 2nd tri to have my hair done everyone will know as I always have my hair done!!! Ha ha!!

I use to be a hairdresser and it's totally save to use bleed/colour/peroxide on your hair.

Some people say it doesn't take but it does. I had my hair done when i was 8 weeks and everything was/is fine. The colour took and i had no reactions from it and the baby is doing fine.

If you want to get it done then go for it.

Ive just had mine done today, Im 12 weeks. My hairdresser said its fine too when i asked her a few weeks ago, I just managed to hold off a bit longer.

xxx

my doc says not until the 2nd tri to be safe...

i'm leaving mine till our first scan, but when i was pregnant with my first, i waiting till i was around 30 weeks, i honestly don't think i'm going to be able to leave it son long this time

I've just been looking in the mirror and I really can't wait long!!! The end of Feb is a long way where my roots are concerned! Also my hairdresser is my best friends sister so if I tell her I need to tell him!!!

have half inch roots already and I'd have to wait until the end of feb too!
I've looked at a few websites and apparantly the issue with ammonia and peroxide is when there is a chance of it entering your blood stream- ie if it touches your scalp.

The websites say to have highlights if ucan coz the peroxide doesn't touch your scAlp?

I don't think I will be able to wait until end of first tri to get mine highlighted again. It was last done on 19th Dec so I might just be able to hold out until the middle of Feb (as long as it doesn't look odd if I wear hats in the office all day).

A good tip is dry shampoo if your a blondie!! That covers my roots at least a little bit!!!

To be honest I had my hair done on the 15th Dec and by my dates I could have been pregnant then!! So lord knows!!

I'm getting mine done on Saturday again so that will be twice in the 1st tri.

I'm definitely getting mine done! I can manage without cigarettes, alcohol and my favourite cheeses, but i can't manage without getting my roots done!! ha ha! If you have highlights the dye doesn't touch your scalp so i can't see what the problem is. My hairdresser bleached her hair all the way through her pregnancies and was fine!

it will be fine my parents are hair dressers and they both do colourins on pregnant ppl if ur worried ask them to test it in u 1st that way all will show ul be fine!

i dyed mine myself because the roots were stressing me out, and it went all patchy and funny colours, so id definately go the hairdressers! haha. It says its not been proven to cause any harm to the baby but id wait till 2nd trim just to be safe, as 1st trim is wher u worry the most about things going wrong, best being safe than sorry!

I would wait till 2nd trimester but its an individual thing so if you want it done then do it but I wouldn't want to take the risk on the LO, take care :hugs: XX

I'm a hairdresser and have been taught/told by the manufacturers of colours and bleaches that they are no risk during pregnancy, everywhere I have worked we have coloured pregnant ladies. Hair colours can be unpredictable though due to the change of hormones so it may turn out a shade or so different, highlights are the best because they don't touch your scalp and bleach is exactly the same when pregnant as when not pregant. I had my highlights done at 6 1/2 weeks. The fumes may annoy your m/s though if you have it so near a window would be good! Otherwise you may redecorate the salon

I asked my midwife if I could highlight my hair, and she said it is up to you, there is no evidence to show whether it is safe or not. I've decided not to, but it's totally up to you.

I'm so happy to have found this thread.
I'm driving myself nuts reading all the conflicting opinions on this matter on the internet!
I've been bleaching my hair white-blonde since I was 16 years old and I love it. I don't mind a bit of punky black root showing through (a la Debbie Harry, Gwen Stefani et al) but my roots are getting ridiculous now!! I'm almost 9 weeks pregnant and I'm impatiently waiting till the 2nd trimester before getting them done.
I feel horribly guilty because apparently it hasn't been proven 'safe' to bleach hair during pregnancy (although my hairdresser has told me it's perfectly safe), but on the other hand I can't find one single example of damage caused to the unborn baby?!
I just can't bear the thought of spending the next 7 months with crap hair!!!

I've bleached my roots monthly for the last 8 years and 2 pregnancies (now pregnant with my 3rd). Never had any problems and my girls are very healthy
