Posted this is the Baby Club but realised it would probably be better in this section..

To save Brooke from being so distressed when she wants her milk as you have to make them up from fresh & also to save time.. can I put boiling water in all the bottles in the morning & leave them on the side ready to use, so just need to add the milk when she wants feeding?

I've heard some mums still make up feeds in advance even though they say your not supposed to any more (how did we all survive!?) but not sure how to go by it..

Adding the powder to cool boiled water is one way to do it, and the other is to make them up and store at the back of the fridge. According to the guidelines you're not meant to do either - but almost everybody does!

You are meant to add the powder while the water is hot (above 70 degrees), as this will kill any bacteria that might be in the powder. You aren't meant to store the formula made up because bacteria can breed more easily in a made up bottle.

According to the official guidelines, if you're not going to make it fresh and hot when needed, the next best is to make it hot and store it in the fridge (presumably on the basis that the bacteria have been killed when it was made, and so cannot breed). But you just need to make an informed decision as to what you're happiest with.

i was told in the hospital you could get the water ready and cool then add the powder! if i dont do that my lo ends up with awful trapped wind from the screaming hes done! and he dscream the house down at night this way he doesnt have to get distressed!x

Yeh I do exactly that, not supposed to but no probs so far (have been FF for 4 weeks)

I used to make up Erin's bottles in advance and keep them in the fridge, but it seemed to take ages getting them back to a nice temperature for her to drink, so now I put half the amount of boiled water in the bottles, let them cool, and then put them in the fridge. Then when she's ready for a feed, pour in boiled water to make up the right amount and add the formula. That way, the formula's going into hot water to sterilise it, and the bottles at a perfect temperature for her, without having to faff with warming it up. HTH:thumbup:
