Hi Ladies,

I had a lovely straight forward but long labour with my daughter. I had a midwife with me in the room the whole time and the room was enormous with a pool and en suit and twinkly lights. Then after the birth my OH and I were escorted into our own bedroom, with big double bed and en suit with Isla by oursides.

However......now in our area one of the midwife units has closed. So all the rooms have been split into 2/3 and the midwifes are very short staffed!

So I would really like to have a home birth. But I live in a 2 bedroomed flat and wouldn't really want to give birth there.

However, my mum lives around the corner in the house I grew up in. And it would be perfect for a home birth. The kitchen and dining room/2nd sitting room are joined, which leads out to the downstairs bathroom and back garden. And there is a front room which is lovely and cozy for after the birth.

I have 2 sisters who have their own children and my mum has been there for every childs birth (this will be her 7th grandchild birth). She should have been a midwife given the chance! She is brilliant. And she has offered her house up. Secretly I think she loves the idea of one of her grandkids being born in her house!

I would love nothing more than my mum and sisters to be there with me when I give birth (and my husband of course!! lol) And especially it being in my mums house. Where I practically live, as my mum looks after Isla for me when I am in work. And the days I don't work neither does she. She we are always together! She's my best friend. And with my dad being a chef he's constantly cooking and feeding people. So he'll be great to have on hand too!!

Do you think this would be a problem? Would my midwife object do you think?

Sorry for the essay. My sister planted the seed in my head and I just cant stop thinking about it now! I will of course ask my midwife when I see her in 2 weeks!

Thanks again x

I don't think this would be a problem at all especially as its only round the corner from your place so the same team of midwives would be covering that area.

I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem at all because if it's around the corner it's going to be the same trust/team of midwives, they'll just need to have it written very clearly on your notes, I'm sure you're not the first that's done it. I would consider attempting to do myself if my hubby was sent away with work and my mum lives 150 miles away lol.

We had a "HB" at my parents house. It was great. I felt comfortable and didn't have to worry about the house being ready for the birth or our nosey neighbours, or being on the 3rd floor. My parents went and stayed in our house though because i didn't fancy lots of people about.

I am having a home birth at my mums and really looking forward to it. I don't see why it would be a problem. I am in Australia so I don't know what country your in and policies but I wouldn't see why it would be different as long as the house is clean and tidy (which I'm sure it is) then I would say book it in :)
My mums house is also a perfect set up the kitchen dining and sitting area are also joined and half is tiled so I will put my birth pool there and then you walk through the adjoining hallway and there is the bedroom and bathroom with a spa and shower so it all works out perfect for me.
Good luck and I hope you get the chance to have your home birth and I'm sure your mum will be wrapped if it happens :)

sounds like a great setup to me. i dont see what the problem would be at all. go for it!

That sounds really lovely, to give birth in the house you grew up in with your amazing mum, sisters, and husband. You are really lucky! Wishing you a truly beautiful birth xx

That sounds like it would be perfect!
I'd love to have a home birth but we live in a 1-bedroom apartment on the 4th floor. I know I would not be comfortable and at ease. You're blessed to have another option!!
