Hi, I'm just woundering what the rules are around elective c-sections.
My previous birth was an emergency c-section, I only have one child
And I'm now expecting my second baby. I'm scared to death of labour
From my last experience! I was in labour some 19 hours and wouldn't
Dilate more than 4cm!! My baby was distressed and had a low heart rate
So they decided to rush me to theatre for an emergency c-section.
Does anyone know if I can opt for a ceserean this time?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks :)

im sure you can ask for a section as you have had one before.

def ask at your next app, good luck :)

yes, without a doubt. If you had a previous c section you have the choice. I just had my 35 week appt, the cons asked what i wanted to do birth wise. I told her c section again...no questions or fight from her!!!

Thanks for your advice!! I was so scared about the whole vbac thing I would Deffo prefer a elective section this time round! I'm only 5weeks preg at the moment so not due to see the mw for a few weeks yet but I will surely be letting her know what I want lol :)
Thank you so much for the advice :))

bear in mind they wont discuss the birth option until about 35 weeks even if you are consultant led!!

Your story is almost identical to mine. At my 8 week booking in appt the MW asked what I wanted and I said section. I did go to a group talk to help make up my mind but there was never an attempt by anyone to deny me one. Recovery from my elective was totally different from emergency and if I had another I'd do it all again. Good luck x

Thanks for your replies :) my mind is much more at ease now :) and glad to hear the recovery from an elective is easier as I found it difficult last time!
Thanks guys :)

I had an emergency c sec too after a similar experience last time. I was very wary of vbac as I really didn't want to repeat, but the midwives and consultants have really tried to push me this way and I tried to look at it with an open mind. I've now stamped my foot and said elective on grounds of my misunderstood medical condition (I have another post re this). Oddly the midwives have accepted my choice, but the consultants are still trying to push me a bit for vbac.

Having said that, they have said they'll book me in on my next appt (33 weeks for me) as they want the results of a second GTT and growth scan, they want to bring me in earlier. Fair enough I suppose, as it should save them faffing about.

I had a similar experience- 27 hours of labour which resulted in emcs and baby in nicu for 3 days. I initially wanted vbac but consultants have persuaded me to have another section, rather than pushing for a vbac. I'm sure you will be fine!! If you have any negative associations with your last one e.g. For me pre-eclampsia developed in labour, baby in nicu which I didn't get to bond with then they have no reason to argue with you x
