Hi,

Is there anyone out there who is going through the same thing? I went off BC in January and my cycles have been all over the place (30-60 days) which I know can be messed up by BC (Yasmin, specifically). I don't want to hit the panic button yet, but I know the wait-list to fertility clinics can be long so I'm wondering if I should get a referral now. Is their any "harm" to starting fertility treatments (i.e., Clomid) "too early" - such as after only trying for less than 6 months?

Anybody out there with a similar experience? I would LOVE to hear from you.

I am desperate for a baby. I am sure this resonates with the majority of you. But it's almost all consuming....

Good luck everyone and thanks for those who reply.

in canada, from my experience, the docs are ultra conserative. Your won't get a referral to a fc unless you've been ttc for 1 year and they won't prescribe chlomid because of the risks it causes of developing cysts.

If you're fam doc doesn't' know whats up you can always say you've been ttc for 1 year but there's still likely a wait time of 3-6 months for getting in.

Once you get in, you'll then spend 2 months testing: sperm test, hcg, u/s, 3 day & 21 day (FSH/estrodial-ovarian reserve & progesterone-to see if you're ovulating) bloodwork. Then you can try chlomid.

At least in alberta that's the case...you might want to move to quebec, they get their fertility treatments paid for and there's no wait time :(

Don't worry too much yet. I would wait for your cycles to regulate, maybe try some herbs? I tried herbs off and on (EPO and Maca root), TTC conceive since December '11 and only just finally succeeded last month. The difference between you and me is that I wasn't on BC prior to TTC, and I am a year older. That may have put me in a better position since my cycles were regular, but even then it took me 6 months.
So don't panic yet, get into the fertility clinic when you can if that's what you want but remember the reason for the guidelines! They won't let you into a fertility clinic to early because it DOES take that long for some people. It's heart wrenching along the way, but it's how it goes for some of us. And we're no spring chickens! It seems the stars have to align extra perfect for us to conceive!
I will say on the month we did conceive, I was about to give up. I hadn't been on this forum for two months and we only bd'd about once during my fertile period and four times for the whole month. I noticed my fertility signs were more pronounced (Good EWCM). And this was for no reason. I think it just meant I had a good egg and my body responded by showing me those signs. We weren't tired out from BD'ing too much. I didn't take anything herbal or medicine wise and to be honest it was a pretty stressful month. I think it just happens when it happens, just keep bd ing during your fertile period and do what you can to get those cycles regular. I think that is the most important thing you could do right now.

Give yourself up to 6 months to regulate then see your dr for test to see what your hormone levels are at

Most dr will be reluctant till 6-12 months ttc to refer to a specialist and then it can take another 6+ months to get in

Some dr will prescribe metformin and some other fertility meds ie clomid etc

Goodluck

Like the others say I would definitely wait until you reach 6 months then head off to see your GP for a referral. I have a few friends who have struggled for much longer and there GPs still would not refer them, and they ended up going to a walk in clinic for the referral instead.

I've been off BC since March and my cycles are still off as well. In June I bled twice! My doc told me it can take 3 months for cycles to regulate, but I wasn't on Alesse, not Yasmin.

I'm 38 and my doc told me that if I don't conceive within two months of TTC he wanted to send me to a fertility specialist so I don't waste time. (I'm in Ontario. I don't know if that matters.) Are you temping and or using OPKs? If so, it could give you a better sense of what your body is doing, plus it could help your doctor. I'd say there's no harm in talking to your doc about it because the worst s/he can say is no, not yet. If s/he says that, make sure they tell you what you should be doing in the mean time to track and regulate.
