Hi everyone

I am sitting here in floods of tears.

Basically I started 225 injections of gonal f 9 days ago. I wasn't monitored until today when I was told I only had one follicle that was big enough (1 other medium one and some very small ones). The cycle was cancelled as a result.

I am soooo upset. Does this mean ivf won't work for me? I'm holding on to the fact that this was a low dose and I wasn't monitored - but only 1 egg!!!!! I am so devastated!!! have an appointment on Wed to talk with the doctor further - too upset to ask questions today.

Does anyone know anything about this? xxxxxxxxxx

You poor thing - Its so disapointing to have come all that way for your cycle to be cancelled! Take your time and get your thoughts together for your meeting next week . Write all your questions down and dont be afraid to tell the clinic you didnt feel you were monitored enough!

Im not a doctor but it does look like IVF will work for you as you did get some follies - perhaps the dose was just not high enough this time around. Thats sometimes the way with the first cycle as they treat it more like an experiment .I know thats not fair especially when you are paying privately but next time they will understand more about your body and reactions to the drugs so can change doses, protocols etc.

Im so sorry you have been left devastated like this and hope you get some decent response from your clininc

Sending you lots of hugs and kisses xoxoxo

don't give up hopes yet, it might just mean - like angel223 said - that the dose isn't high enough for you.

can you ask for closer monitoring? i think we have several echo's leading up to the trigger shot so they can adjust meds if needed.

Hun I am so sorry - this is so devastating. But like everyone else has said the first try is more experiemental (not that that makes us feel ANY better). It could mean higher doses or different types of stims next time and definitely more scans.

I am so sorry - let us know how it goes when you meet with the fs.

:hugs:

Thanks everyone. Just spoke to the nurse and she said that there were different protocols that they can try but I will have to wait though. Feel so down :(

I was about to ask that hun -were you on the short protocol.....or not? Did you have to down regulate (you only do that on the long one)? It sounds strange to me because my first cycle was on the short protocol and my first scan was on cd day 6 after 3 doses gonal 150 (the forth one was to come that evening).....i would ask them why they didn't monitor you? Don't even think that you won't be able to produce eggs! Ofcourse you will! Every cycle is different! I had one or two larger follicle and plenty of mid sized ones and they just stimmed me for an extra day... I think we ultimately lost the 2 bigger follicles as they were too mature to fertilise, but we had another 3 mature ones that fertilised and 3 non mature- they can't do anything with them...
I'd ask them to explain everything if i was you! But don't think that there's something wrong with you!

So sorry to read this - I've just been through something similar (though I went through egg collection and only got 2 eggs and 2 groups of cells who were pretending they could be eggs). We have since had our follow up appointment with the FS and have a new plan of attack for the next cycle. As others have said, unfortunately until you try IVF nobody knows exactly how it's going to work for each person. Not sure where you are, but if this has been a publicly funded cycle, it won't count, and if you have paid for it - your cycle was cancelled before the major expense (egg collection) happened - small consolation I know, but any positive you can take from this is good.

I have asked for more scans and earlier next time. I was on the same Puregon dose as you, and next time we're starting higher to get more follies to start to develop right at the beginning of the stims, as after a few days it is too late to get any new ones to grow. Once they are growing the Puregon dose might be reduced back to 225.

You still have lots of options ahead of you. :hugs:

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I'm feeling a bit better today. I have been reading up and there are different protocols for poor responders (e.g. the 'flare' protocol - has anyone heard of that?). Spoke to the nurse yesterday and she said that it is still possible for IVF to work - so I need to stay positive (hard work though!). As there was an egg ready to pop we are going to bd over the weekend - I'm praying for a miracle that will work and I will never have to go to that climic ever again!!!! xxxxxx

Aww sorry u had to go through that disappointment :-(
I hope u manage to catch that egg naturally, but if u don't, at least u knw there are different protocols and means of dealing of ur future ivf cycles and then hopefully it should give u the result u dream of :-) xxx

I'm sorry your cycle was cancelled. One thing to bear in mind is that every cycle is different - even with the exact same drug protocol. My first cycle I produced 11 eggs and on my second one, with one less day of stims, I produced 14 eggs.

Just because this one didn't work for you doesn't mean the next one won't. And don't forget - it's not quantity of eggs but the quality that matters over anything else.

Good luck

x
