me and my boyfriend wont to find our own place the problem is the housing prices in London so expensive and we both need to live in london as we have jobs there.he is working full time so he is working 38 hours and i am working part time.

i cant go on ay benefits cause he is working fulltime so they wont give it to me.tryed going on the council waiting list but it 10 years with no chance for sure of a house.so frustratig feel like were getting nowere anyone been n this situation and can offer advice.

Hiya, I've not been in your situation, but could you not live on the outskirts of London? Everything to do with the price of living is really expensive in London but a lot of people commute in and there is so many ways of getting into London whether that be driving, the train, tube or bus.

I live near Birmingham; the housing prices are expensive there (in comparison to where I live) but there are so many ways of getting into Birmingham that I wouldn't need to live there to work there.

I'd look around at local areas and commute in x

Yes definitely look into the outskirts. I think you'll find lots of people who work in London commute in every day. I think an hour's commute is probably quite normal, it is certainly what my OH does. Even if you wouldn't be able to commute for your part time job, the costs can be so wildly different that you may find it worth while leaving your job if it means you can live in a cheaper area! For example, if I was working at a £10/hour job for 16 hours a week, it wouldn't be worth living in 'proper' London to do that because the extra living costs would take more money than I'd earn! What do you do? If it's a general kind of job, you could try to find a new job somewhere cheaper too.

I live on the outskirts (zone 6) it costs me £10 a day to get in and out of London (if I worked full time I would get an annual season ticket which lots of London employers give interest free loans for making it a little cheaper than pay as you go). I know London as a whole is pretty rammed, but are there other boroughs you could try getting a council home in?

I live near heathrow. London paddington is only a 20min train journey away x
